President Trumps pick to head up the military health system lunged into the U.S. gun debate Tuesday during a Senate hearing, saying laws allowing civilians to purchase long guns like the Texas church shooter are insane.
Dean Winslow, a professor at Stanford University, offered up the assessment, seemingly unprompted, amid questions from Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., about the militarys treatment of domestic violence convictions during his nomination hearing to be assistant secretary of defense for health affairs.
Shaheen asked specifically whether Winslow believed a person such as Devin Patrick Kelley, who was jailed by the military for assaulting his wife and stepson, should have received a dishonorable discharge instead of the lesser bad conduct discharge.
Winslow at first pointed to what he called a single point of failure, apparently referring to the Air Forces mistake of not reporting Kelleys crime to civilian authorities, which allowed him to purchase guns. But then he went further.
Id also like to, and I may get in trouble with other members of the committee, just say how insane it is that in the United States of America a civilian can go out and buy a semi-automatic assault rifle like an AR-15, which apparently was the weapon that was used, Winslow said. Kelley reportedly used a Ruger AR-556, which is similar in style to an AR-15.
Also during the hearing, Winslow was pressed by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the Armed Services chairman, to explain a reference in Winslows written answers to the committee about providing abortions to military women.
I also believe that therapeutic abortion services should be provided by the military in appropriately staffed facilities, Winslow wrote in the submitted questionnaire.
McCain read the quote and ask pointedly, What do you mean by that?
Winslow said he was glad for the opportunity to clarify his response and that he understands the military has long been barred by law from providing abortions in most cases.
Therapeutic abortions refer to situations in which the mothers life is in danger, Winslow said.
You better clean it up doctor or you are going to have trouble getting it through the Senate, McCain warned.
I’m sure you just don’t understand the 3-dimensional chess he is playing here.

“But just what exactly is an assault rifle as compared to one that is not?”
An “assault” rifle is whatever the government decides they don’t want us to have.
Scratch this POS!
According to the national Review, Operation Fast and Furious, was designed to help the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) dismantle drug cartels operating inside the United States and disrupt drug-trafficking routes. Instead, it put into the hands of criminals south of the border some 2,000 weapons, which have been used to kill hundreds of Mexicans and at least one American, U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

Among the different national databases the FBI uses for checks containing information concerning your discharge, if you were, and if it was for worse than dishonorable conditions it would have been different. They don’t need to ask you, they have it. And if it would have had a bad conduct discharge on the form he would have been denied. And like I mentioned, there are codes on all the different discharges and dismissals that do detail the reason for release.
So the problem isn’t that the Air Force didn’t do their job, the FBI didn’t do theirs.

The robotic setup would be even cooler with a high powered muzzle loader.

If Trump fails to withdraw his nomination, he will be done as President!

Patton was a close second.

Delete that. Trailer park lowtechs could build something with electromagnetic internal ballistics (rail). Let’s go all the way. Those Ayrab battle wagons in the ME weren’t so great. Western technical minds can do much better.
Absolutely. Stupidity this breathtaking is dangerous.
Let's see, now, where to begin:
Ok, so thats the official statement, I think we know the true desire behind this stunt! IRC, they didnt use the same methodology that bush used which revealed the true intent. This is Barry and company were talking about here.
“This is Barry and company were talking about here.”
Actually, the Brady Act or the Brady Bill, was the Act of the United States Congress that mandated federal background checks on firearm purchasers in the United States, and imposed a five-day waiting period on purchases, until the NICS system was implemented in 1998.
The original legislation was introduced into the House of Representatives by Representative Charles E. Schumer in March 1991, but was never brought to a vote. The bill was reintroduced by Rep. Schumer on February 22, 1993 and the final version was passed on November 11, 1993. It was signed into law by President Bill Clinton on November 30, 1993 and the law went into effect on February 28, 1994.
The point I was making is that the Air Force accomplished what they were ordered to do by congress, and did provide the information they were expected to do by providing on the form that the FBI could have found in their check action.
The fault is with the FBI, not the Air Force. And the media is being untruthful again by presenting this statement and trying to deflect the FBI which is one of the organizations that needs credibility in their investigation of Trump. Without it, all these people that are trying to indicate Trumps guilt in a number of charges could be considered bogus or an out and out pack of liars by the voters. It could even establish an ineptness of the FBI tht could crumble all credibility for them. Smoke and mirrors. Never changes.
