ABERDEEN -- Shortly before 9:40 p.m., Republican Kim Guadagno appeared on stage to concede the New Jersey governor's race to Democrat Phil Murphy, saying she made "the best possible case" to voters in her efforts to succeed Gov. Chris Christie. "We left no stone unturned," Guadagno, Christie's lieutenant governor, said, quickly arresting the lusty boos that sprang up at the mention of Murphy's name.

And that name—never heard it before.
“...shackled with a Democrat-contrallied legislature...”
True enough, and that was/is a huge issue.
But he DID have a huge bully pulpit, and could have forced some issues with EOs from his office. Could have called the dems to the carpet in front of cameras and microphones at every opportunity. To BEAT them, you first have to FIGHT them.
Could have made it a crusade to help NJ citizens have their Constitutional Right recognized.
Water under the bridge now, though. I wish you NJ folks well and hope you can keep this newly-elected commielibfreak under control somehow.
You can always move to PA if it gets bad; we have that idiot Wolfe, but also a GOP-controlled house and senate, so it’s easy to boot him in the ass and shut him down when he gets uppity.
See #22.
The last time New Jersey had a conservative governor was 1944. Of all the governors since -- it's been a pretty terrible bunch -- Christie has been one of the better ones.
He might have done something for the Republican brand in the state. Instead, he set his sights on higher office. Screw the Republican party.
I don't think Christie was stupid enough to order Bridgegate himself, but he most certainly was stupid enough to hire the idiots who thought that Bridgegate was a smart idea.
Between that and Trump, it just wasn't winnable this year. Giordano did better than I thought she'd do.
“After Christie, who the Hell wanted another Republican?? Christie was sold as the Republican savior of New Jersey and he turned out to be a turd. People were willing to try another Democrat after his clown act.”
Obviously you live in New Jersey. How bad was he? Did he raise taxes? What did he do that made you say what you did? You sound really angry.
Nothing changed in NJ. Nothing. He played eGOP all the way.
He was a pre-Trump, if Trump lacked any substance. Really just another in a long line of establishment RINO losers in NJ: Cahill, Kean, Whitman, DiFrancesco...
Believe me, I’m not happy about it. I liked the guy when he first came on the scene. I thought my gunny friends across the river actually had a chance at getting some 2A respect for their rights.
Again, what’s done is done. Sad for my buds that live there.
“Nothing changed in NJ. Nothing. He played eGOP all the way”
So...you’re from Colorado. So you have no idea, do you?
My daughter lives in PA now and I know PA doesn't tax Social Security, pensions and IRA distributions. (I'm 66.)
A PA pied-à-terre seems like a good idea. It's closer than Florida, and I don't think you get as many hurricanes.
(If I can just stay out of NJ 1/2 of the year + 1 day, I would not be a NJ resident. I've done it before. I can do it again. :) )
You can start by googling bridge gate, and follow that up with Christie LBI 2017.
That will tell you all you need to know about why that bloated p.o.s. is disliked in NJ, by democrats and republicans.
“...nd I don’t think you get as many hurricanes...”
Well, we’re further inland, so they pretty much break up before they hit us with force.
Jersey doesn’t tax Social Security (yet) - you also get a pension deduction of up to 20k (and rising in years to come) if you meet income restrictions - some relief at least - I did my parents’ income taxes for the feds and Pennsylvania for several years - Penna income taxes were a nightmare to compute as I remember it.....
Exactly. I really had high hopes for Christie. Talk about burning your bridges...
The lawn chair thing on the beach didn’t go over so well, either.
Oh man... you aren't kidding!
Yeah, local talk radio had a field day with it.
Optics in politics... especially when the enemy knows how to use them. And the dems, like it or not, know how to play this game.
At least you are used to it. Here in Virginia we keep rooting for Republicans like we (or some people) root for the Redskins. Loser team that looks ok every now and then.
Lost? For now, maybe... but there’s a bigger picture.
Have a look at this post by my buddy Impy:

He puts things in perspective very well.
One battle in a longer war, friends.
