John McCain reportedly said that tax reform is ‘DOA in the Senate’

GOP Senator John McCain has done this country and the people innumerable services for which we unreservedly thank him. But the Arizona lawmaker’s anti-Trump stance and vocal opposition to the President’s practically every legislative proposal could jeopardize his reputation among the masses.

We could perhaps forgive him for his unreserved efforts toward killing Mr. Trump’s long-planned and promised replacement of Obamacare, but that’s where the people draw the line.

With Mr. Trump diligently working toward getting his tax reform passed, it may turn out that McCain could again play a decisive role in the bill’s future.

As Zero Hedge has reported, the tax reform is basically dead now that McCain, the third Republican so far, has announced his opposition to it.

The outlet goes on to say: What’s worse for the Trump administration, McCain reportedly wants the bill to receive input from both parties – a criticism that he cited as his reason for voting against the Trump administration’s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare. This is particularly problematic because there’s approximately zero chance that any Democratic lawmakers will break ranks to vote with Republicans, despite President Donald Trump repeatedly saying that he expects to win over Democrats.

The Arizona Republican has reportedly said that the current legislation is DOA in an interview with Fox Business’ Charlie Gasparino.

"In recent weeks, John McCain has reiterated his demand that Republicans pass their tax plan through a bipartisan process that honors the norms of regular order. McCain voted down his party’s Obamacare repeal bill precisely because it failed to meet this standard. And it will be impossible to pass the House plan – or anything close to it – through any but a rushed, secretive, partisan process", ZeroHedge adds.

Susan Collins said on Monday that she will not vote for the repeal of taxes on multi-million dollar estates, which the current legislation includes.

Bob Corker has also said that he would not back any tax measure that would further increase the debt, even in the first decade, where Congress would be allowed to do so. In its present form, the House plan would raise the deficit by about $1.5 trillion in the next ten years.

It is also uncertain whether the tax reform would pass the House in its current status. GOP legislators from Democratic states slammed Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady regarding additions in the legislation to revoke deductions to $500,000. Deductions for student-loan interests would also be terminated.

“If tax reform is dead, then the GOP is dead, too.”

The GOP died a while ago. Most voted for Hillary and when they came out against Trump after the charlottesville’s incident, in solidarity with antifa, that was it’s final breath.

John McCain’s mental impairment is causing him to follow his petty hatreds to the detriment of the American people. He cannot pass soon enough.

Perhaps a few Dem Senators facing re-election in Trump carried states will be found to overcome the lack of McCain’s vote.

Must the bill have 51 votes to pass or the majority of a quorum? For example if Rand Paul can’t vote and 99 Senators come to vote would they then need 50 votes to pass?

It looks like we can lose 2 but not 3. 3 would be Collins, Corker, McCain.

Was there ever any doubt the GOPE senate would screw this up. The GOP will lose the senate and possibly the house to a bunch of leftist kooks because they have shown they are inept, incompetent and a bunch of ego driven elitist scuzballs just there for the power, perks and in Mcinsanes case$$$$. I wonder if he thinks his millions of dollars in bribes over the years are going to go with him or do him any good when he takes the dirt nap. Perhaps a Uhual full of it towed to the cemetery attached to the hearse he’s in...

What will be more telling about Mcinsane is that when he dies his alleged political enemies, the democrats will mourn him more than those whom he professed political alliance and friendship to in the Republican Party, many of whom wil feel about him the same way Scrooge’s death was felt by his business “friends” upon his death when the third spirit came to call, except the bitter and hateful Mcinsane has no remorse for his many betrayals. He is a poor, self-serving political hack who is everything he allegedly decries.

I REALLY hope the (usually) Democrat voters in MI, OH, PA and WI that put Trump over the top can see that these so-called 'rogue' GOP senators are the reason why his agenda is not getting enacted. There needs to be a push on our side to reach these voters with the message to vote for REAL Republicans in primaries and not backslide to the 'Rats in general elections.

Primary 'em all!

The tax bill they are currently promoting deserves to die.

Yes, it does. I am no fan of McCain, but if the current bill is killed, millions of us who were about to be royally shafted by this abortion of a bill will shed no tears.

My taxes will be going up. What does that create?

Rep Brady and Speaker Ryan didn’t write a “tax cut” bill, but instead wrote a “winners (corporations) and losers (millions of middle class)” bill. The current bill is nothing like the Reagan tax cuts. It is a horrible bill out of the pit of Hell.

Tax cuts for EVERYONE create wealth. The Trump tax cuts aren't for everyone. Certainly not for me! (Spare me the "you're rich, you can afford to pay more" argument.)

Exactly.

Trump desperately needs a “win” in Congress, but unfortunately, he has to hitch his wagon to a terrible bill that will rape millions of Americans (homeowners, high tax state families, adoptive families, disaster victims, student loan holders, those who deduct medical expenses, etc).

But Facebook and Zuckerberg will make out like bandits.

He won’t be around for re-election so it is easy for him to sabotage the GOP. His thoughts are filtered through his brain tumor.

This bill could be more problematic for Republicans than just being a bad bill. It is pitting conservatives against each other. Look at how many here on FR are disparaging those who won’t get a tax break, as long as they get theirs.

If the Senate does not agree with all facets of the House Tax proposal, isn’t it their responsibility to make the changes they think would make it more palatable and get it passed rather than just labeling it DOA?

Did McCain list any specifics he disagrees with, or he just blowing smoke again?

The “details” can be worked out in Committee as they always are.

But some of those posters are NOT conservatives at all; they just imagine that they are, when in truth, they don’t know WHAT being a CONSERVATIVE is.

Good point.

I simply voiced my opinion that I don't want to get raped with more taxes. For that straight forward and logical position, myself and many other Freepers have been attacked as "Communists", "Marxists", and "Greedy." The states we happen to live in have been smeared and cursed.

And this is all on Free Republic. For simply being against higher taxes!

Amazing, isn't it?

“For simply being against higher taxes!”

Amazing indeed.

Most of these folks are simply Republican cheerleaders. They want to win. Others are rightfully Trump cheerleaders, knowing he’s our last, best hope and fear this failure will sink him. I disagree...Trump will be fine, the Republican Congress will suffer. Immensely.

And rightfully so. They have betrayed everything, everything Republicans used to stand for. And have done so since the days of GW Bush.

The dirty rotten bastards.

Those of us who actually know what's in it, that has been slowly leaked out ( bet that there is far worse stuff still hidden/unknown by us, in it )are being called all kinds of disgusting, stupid names, by people who don't keep up and/or imagine that they will be getting a BIG payoff, and/or are just class warriors who are giddy over the fact that some people and some regions will get hurt.

For a supposed CONSERVATIVE site, those posts make no sense at all.
