Itemized deductions is central planning by government. Agree or not?
Is it a proper role of government to reward or incentivize certain behaviors a/o economic choices and to punish or discourage others?
Is home ownership a good thing which leads to better citizenship and more stable communities? Then it should be encouraged, even if this is done through what you malign as “central planning”.
Bottom line is the GOP is raising taxes on the upper middle class

There is both social engineering...like subsidy for children, incentive to care for the elderly, charitable deductions, deductions for home ownership etc.
Should we eliminate those? If not, why not?
And there are deductions for taxes paid to other entities. Money used to pay taxes should not be taxed.
