21st Century Fox has been holding talks to sell most of the company to Walt Disney Co., leaving behind a media company tightly focused on news and sports, according to people familiar with the situation.

The talks have taken place over the last few weeks and there is no certainty they will lead to a deal. The two sides are not currently talking at this very moment, but given the on again, off again nature of the talks, they could be revisited.

For Fox, the willingness to engage in sale talks with Disney stems from a growing belief among its senior management that scale in media is of immediate importance and there is not a path to gain that scale in entertainment through acquisition. The company is said to believe that a more tightly focused group of properties around news and sports could compete more effectively in the current marketplace...

I would hope so, but I think Marvel would follow the Spider-man route and cameo them in current productions then spin them off.

Oh that’s what we really need in the companies that make movies - more consolidation; yea right. /sarc

What may be good for 20th Century Fox may not be good for a movie industry already very consolidated and pushing out more and more crap.

The first Fantastic Four was actually pretty good. The actor they had playing Dr. Doom wasn’t great, but they had a good Thing and Human Torch. The sequel sucked when they proceeded to ruin Galactus and themSilver Surfer. The reboot truly sucked. The x-men need a reboot anyway since they made Magneto so over-powered and Hugh Jackman won’t be playing Wolverines any more. Not to mention the Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch licensing issues. I look at this as good news.

And with the money they’d earn from the studio sale, Fox could further bolster their sports networks and kill off ESPN, once and for all.

Hello new professional football league??? 🏈

My understanding is that this involves Hollywood-type Fox enterprises - including some cable channels. Technology is changing that part of the media notably... might have something to do with this. Disney is here in my back yard, and - while they bring train loads of money into Orlando - they are not a very good neighbor... AND their media is only designed to corrupt children. IMHO
