That leaves only a few possibilities: Maybe he bought it from a non FFL at a gun show or that he found on Craig’s List (which would add fuel to the push for “universal background checks”). Maybe he bought it from a non FFL who knew him, who will now have to answer questions as to how he didn’t have reason to know this guy was dishonorably discharged. Or maybe his Antifa buddies gave it to him, which will have obvious ramifications. Or maybe the reports are inaccurate and he was not dishonorably discharged (that report does come from CBS, after all).

Or maybe he brought the gum legally before the dishonorable discharge.

Unloading guns on criminals was not at all a problem for the last president.

True. With the photo being posted on Facebook, I assumed this was a new acquisition, but maybe not.

Since he was apparently convicted and discharged for assaulting his wife and child, you’d think they might mention his guns to the SPs while he was in prison.

It turns out, according to a number of reports, he received a BCD, not a dishonorable discharge, which is sort of what I suspected. Most of the media don’t understand the difference between the two, and dishonorable discharges are pretty rare. Bergdahl aside, I didn’t think dishonorable discharges unaccompanied by a lengthy prison sentence were common.

The BCD would not prevent him from owning a gun. However, it was still illegal for him to possess a gun under either 922(g)(1) or (9) because he was convicted of either a felony or a misdemeanor of domestic violence.
