Lawyers for big foundation donors are likely advising their clients to demand their money back based upon the fraudulent nature of the foundation as a supposed charity. To not do so may implicate them as complicit in the fraud, which in most cases they are anyway.

Ortel is an excellent interviewee who added a lot of nuggets here.
