This weeks terrorist attack in New York City carried out by an immigrant who won his spot in the U.S. through a lottery has pushed the Virginia governors race onto turf claimed by Republican Ed Gillespie, who has made immigration and public safety cornerstones of his campaign.
One group of Mr. Gillespies opponents, the Latino Victory Fund, already has pulled down an attack ad showing a truck with a Gillespie bumper sticker stalking children on a sidewalk eerily similar to Tuesdays attack in which a man mowed down people on a bike path in New York.
For his part, Mr. Gillespie steered clear of politics, tweeting he was sickened and heartbroken by NYC terror attack and praying for victims and families. But his campaign and GOP leaders in Virginia have blasted Democratic opponent Ralph Northam for the Latino Victory Fund ad, demanding he criticize the progressive group.
The Northam camp distanced itself from the ad after it was yanked, saying their candidate wouldnt have run it and wants to elevate the campaigns tone.
Having lived in Northern Virginia, i know that most of what I would have considered my friends and acquaintances will vote for Gillepsie just because of that video.
The ones who would believe it are usually too lazy, tired, or drugged to do much of anything during the week.
Louisville radio personality yesterday said he had subbed in the north Virginia market the day before. He said the call in were insistent that the video was helpful to Gillespie. He gave examples of a couple of other situations that flipped an election to target of a bad ad.
Watch the backlash if Antifa goes crazy on Nov 4, 3 days before Nov 7. Candidates and their supporters need to know how to exploit Antifa without going too far.
Welcome to Free Republic!
I’m just wondering how long it will be before the anti Gillespie folks show up to whine about how they have to stay home.
He has my vote on Tuesday! Along with the entire slate plus the House of Delegates. We definitely want to keep the majority in the House of Delegates and also have a GOP Governor to sign their legislation instead of veto it like McAuliffe does.
Please go out and vote people of Virginia or you will have a demo-rat demanding all kinds of crazy things of you through the bully pulpit of the Governorship and using the power of the state, which has a monopoly on the use of force.
