Cord-cutting, or at least the speed at which people are ditching pay TV, is on track to be the biggest upset of the year. There’s finally a collection of cheap-ish streaming services widely available, and as you’d imagine, people are jumping ship from cable as fast as humanly possible.

Actually, I put an old antenna up on a lark and discovered I receive the digital signal surprisingly well. I then bought a fringe antenna with a preamp and now get over a dozen decent American channels out of 33.

I am receiving a clear and dropout free CBS station 90 miles away, what I do not receive is the one old analog station 27 miles away.

Digital can be locked onto with a modern reciever quite well.

Yep, and stations went to the test pattern at midnight. And Harriet made Ozzie a sandwich. And everyone got more sleep.

we get no premium movie channels or sports channels or music or anything just the basic channels extended- and with phone and Internet we’re paying almost $200 a month now- a year ago it was $120

What is amazon firestick?

[[Try to negotiate with your provider.]]

Yup- we’re going to have to- (We did once before- gonna have to again though- the price is just getting way too high)

We do bundle- phone, Internet, tv for almost $200 p/m (no premium movie channels, or sports or music - just basic extended- folks like fox news and turner classic movies)

That works out to almost $70 per service- We started off at about $40 per- it’s just shocking that each service went up $30 in about a year- when we didn’t add anything to them-

When you call a Customer Service Line, you can request to be transferred to a U.S. Based Representative.

Works for Amazon and probably many others.

Real bummer is that where I hang my hat for work now, OTA is basically non-existent. At home in Chesapeake we get ~38 channels; up here in Sterling, 4, none of which are worth keeping the antenna hooked up.. We are in a little valley, though. I’m getting along fine with Sling and Netflix and my BRD player.

Anybody here use Verizon/Fios? If so, what’s your opinion of them?

Verizon Fios was great! WAS! Then they sold to Frontier and they are awful! Every month I had to call and complain about my bill where they had added services without my approval. $9.99 for 3 way calling. $9.99 for call forwarding. $9.99 for call mailbox. Said I was good to update my internet speed at no charge. Service dude shows up says he has to run a new line for the faster speed. I declined. Next day another guy shows up to run a new line. Again I declined. Bill comes in...I am billed for 2 service calls! Switched providers.

I also remove advertising decals and license plate frames when I buy a car.

I always check the car before paying and give the dealer a choice of removing their ads or drop the price or pay me monthly for being a traveling ad for them.

We live in a ‘dead zone’. If you look at a map of Western Pa, and see one of those very few little ‘no reception’ circles - that’s us, right in the middle. We have tv and phone (Ooma) through the internet.
