New incidents of the so-called “knockout game,” where “players” walk up to strangers and sucker punch them in the face, renewed fears among New York and Pennsylvania residents that the cruel prank was making a comeback.
Two separate incidents in New York City and Pittsburgh reported last week showed a woman and man being knocked out. The 43-year-old man was pummeled near the Shake Shack in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, the New York Post reported. The unidentified attacker then snapped a photo of himself with the injured man before fleeing the scene.
A woman in Pittsburgh was also the victim of a “knockout” incident caught on surveillance video more than a month ago, KDKA reported Friday. The unidentified man kicked the woman’s leg and punched her in the face before walking away. Instead of helping the injured woman on the ground, passersby then snapped a photo of her.

This didn’t start with Obama. Ask any white kid who went to a predominantly black high school in the sixties or later. Their lives were a living hell.
From the video of the guy kicking and hitting the woman, it appears to me that he has had some martial arts training, or experience as a street fighter. The kick unbalances her, and as you say, the blow with the hard part of the hand to the neck can cause severe damage or even death. There are several areas on the neck that can inflict far more damage than a fist blow to the face.
Not really, but hitting toward the neck in general can be risky and life threatening (carotid, trachea, spine, etc.). Some martial artists can hit the muscle in the side of the neck for a knockout without risking the life of the opponent.

The temple is a bad area to hit. Such a strike can cause death. Hitting the eye socket can cause a break and blindness.
A very strong person hitting another person on any general part of their body can cause death for lack of accuracy on the part of the attacker. Hitting to some of the more specific targets anywhere from the groin to the top of the head can cause death depending on force used. Hitting other more specific targets is unlikely to cause death.
If non-lethal defense is needed, the feet are the best defensive weapon (running away). If flight is not feasible against a healthy attacker, pepper spray, taser, etc., would be better. If the attacker is not healthy, it’s better to use physical restraint or run away (asthma, heart condition, etc.).
There are always some risks. Being good at controlling or escaping from a situation without physical violence is best. For those who shouldn’t run, being a good, fast judge of a situation and good judge of character are most important.

The incident in the video is NOT the knockout game. The knockout game is when an unsuspecting person is sucker punched, often from behind. The goal being to knock the victim out with one punch. This looks like a case of simple assault resulting from a disagreement. The woman looks drunk and is approaching the man who is attempting to break off the interaction. She may have been running her mouth thinking her female privilege would protect her. It didnt.
And when people start having more situational awareness to protect themselves, they will be called racists for keeping an eye out for potential thugs....
There was a knock-out-’game’ death in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
