Well, I don’t know how “merit based” it is. We’re SWARMING with immigrants who are at the public trough. The benefits are SPECTACULAR - cheques, housing, education, health care, dental care, eye care, taxis if you need one, on and on.

I have my doubts about much merit, unless we are taking in so many “refugees” that you don’t even notice the good ones.

Here’s a good article that explains a merit based or point system immigration. Canada has a merit based system. Maybe refugees fall outside of their system.

I have to agree with you Judy, my sister in Ontario says they are over run with immigrants. And they do get all those benefits you mentioned and more.
My brother in law always says when they get home from shopping or dinner, “where did all the Canadians go?”
Was back there about 6 years ago and all the new construction were Mosques.
