Following the Las Vegas Massacre, Dr. Faren Wintemute, the Director of UC Davis' Violence Prevention Center, has called on physicians across the nation to play a role in curbing gun violence.

According to Wintemute, his colleagues should make a pledge to ask patients about firearms in the home and gun safety, as he detailed in the Annals of Internal Medicine Medical Journal.

One thing Wintemute doesn't take into account? How truthful people are.

I blew up at a pediatrician who got into that spiel. I’m sitting there with a sick toddler with a fever and you’re lecturing me about guns instead of taking care of my sick child.

Unless you are in the business of pulling my DMV records it is NONE of your business if I own or know how to use a GUN.

We were taught in our CCW class run by retired LEO all safety measures, and to empty the clip and make sure the Perp was DOA. You will be sued by their family anyway, and home owner’s ins covers that if they are breaking into your home.

My DOC forms get a lot of N/A.

Only a fool lets their kids see a doc with out them in the office. You never know if 1 is a Pervert after all. Same goes for the Dentist. None of my 3 boys ever went into a doc’s office with out me. And when they were past the age of going into the RR with me, I stood outside the door of the men’s RR for as much safety as I could get them. And we didn’t have this level of all this crap back in the days. Now it’s the grands and great grands I have to worry about.

Wider than you think. When our Primary went to the computer floor-mat, that question was on it. Seen several since on forms, as I see several specialist, for heart, Endo, neurology, and gastro all had them on it. Pain Management is the big 1 besides VA.

He needed a yes or no answer.
I would have replied: I'm very sorry that you "need" a "yes-or-no" answer, but I'm not giving you one.

I would want to go with, "That's interesting. What happens when your need goes unmet?"

(Of course the Totalitarianism enabler will check "yes" on his form for any answer other than "no", so I just went with "no".)

THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION:

How does asking guns in a doctor's office "help to curb gun violence" in any way, shape, or form?????

I want to end obesity, so I will ask about people's eating habits when they visit the car dealership, and this will help people to become less obese. WTH?

Doctors already routinely ask this as a part of the annual Medicare ‘wellness’ visit. They also ask about ‘feeling sad or depressed’ and ‘thoughts about harming yourself’. If the patient is dumb enough to answer ‘yes’, they can kiss their CCW permit goodbye.

That's a good one (even better than aggressively flinging down the gauntlet).

If ever necessary, I'll be using it!

Thanks and regards,

You had one too? Mine was nasty. I was quietly rowing my small boat offshore, out of sight of land, when suddenly, I was hit by another rowboat. I spun out of control and before it was over, I had hit and sunk 47 other rowboats which resulted in the loss of 19,479 firearms. Everyone in the water tried to get into my boat which caused it to sink.

That accident was horrible.

Soon, they'll be encouraged to ask the patient, "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?"

Doctor: Do you have a gun in your home?

Patient: I’ve got a gun in my pocket.

Ah, but they could ask the kids.

I train my grandchildren to reply truthfully without being disrespectful.

Doctor: Is there a gun in your home?

Child: That's none of my business.

The VA is probably afraid you will commit suicide. A friend of mine who uses the VA decided to have an auction and get rid of lots of excess tools and junk around his house.

The VA went bonkers believing he was going to “off” himself. He was just getting rid of years of cars, car parts, old items he did no longer need.

My primary care physician asked me about guns in my home years ago. I politely responded with name, rank and service number. He never asked the question again.
