What insanity!
This is obama-ism.
They should tear down the church. It was contaminated by having Washington once attend services there.
I think the church was talking about building an abortion facility on the grounds next to the planned LGTBQ Welcome Center.
ISIS strikes again.
It is the biblical scripture in 1 Corinthians 8 that spells out the danger of being a stumbling block. This scripture is taken to mean, because other people think its wrong, you might be a stumbling block to them. However, what others think is wrong and what the Bible says is wrong may be two different things. Honoring our first President and the leader of our liberty is not forbidden in the Bible. Any action that does not in itself violate any scriptural precept or principle is not a stumbling block. It is not a sin. Anything that leads a weaker person to violate their conscience is a stumbling block. Seeing a portrait of George Washington is not going to lead another into participating in slavery.
The inches have become miles ...
Why I no longer am an Episcopalian. The Episcopal Church has not been a Christian denomination for a long time. IMO, it literally (and I mean literally) is a dwindling collection of hardcore Socialist ideologues who are ruled & directed by Satan.
This must be the plaque that the church removed...
READ THE INSCRIPTION:
Following his familys church tradition in England, when John Washington died, he left to the church a tablet of the Ten Commandments, on which he inscribed:
Being heartily sorry from the bottome of my hart for my sins past, most humbly desiring forgiveness of the same from the Almighty God (my Saviour) and Redeemer, in whom and by the merits of Jesus Christ, I trust and believe assuredly to be saved, and to have full remission and forgiveness of all my sins.

And people wonder why church attendance is declining.
If I went to this church, I’d stop going starting today.
<< “ ... essentially ‘America’ is becoming less of a nation and morphing into some sort of morass of people who happen to share geography. “ >>
Essentially ‘churches’ are becoming less about church and morphing into some morass of people who happen to share worldly views.
George Washington was devoutly Christian compared to the luke warm who are running the little Virginia church, and favor the malcontents who seek the demise of the nation who gave them freedom of religion.
Let them enslave themselves to the ANTIFA Leftists and their personal preferences. That’s the trick.
nigers
And apparently nothing but geography.
So what’s next? Will that “church” remove its crosses and other vestiges of Christianity because they make a few malcontents feel “uncomfortable?”
“The plaques [ of George Washington and Robert E. Lee ] in our sanctuary make some in our presence feel unsafe or unwelcome,” church leaders said.
I can’t think of any two people I would feel more “safe” around.
Cowards.
“The plaques in our sanctuary make some in our presence feel unsafe or unwelcome,” church leaders said. “Some visitors and guests who worship with us choose not to return because they receive an unintended message from the prominent presence of the plaques.”
“Unsafe”????
Who? And what in the hell is the matter with the church leaders that they cannot articulate the many reasons why someone would feel unsafe has to do the stupidity of the persons expressing such feelings, not anything to with the statue of the man that led this country to independence from Britain.
When the wave of iconoclasm against Confederates starting hitting critics pointed out Washington and other slave owning Founding Fathers would be next. We were mocked but we know out opponents better than they know themselves.
Burton Parish Church, an Episcopal church, is in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg. They have plaques noting where famous VAs from the Revolutionary era sat. I will take observe if those are gone too. Although the only thing keeping that church open are the tourist dollars.
