The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website funded by a major Republican donor, was the first to hire the firm that conducted opposition research on Donald J. Trump including a salacious dossier describing ties between Mr. Trump and the Russian government website representatives told the House Intelligence Committee on Friday.
According to people briefed on the conversation, the website hired the firm, Fusion GPS, in October 2015 to unearth damaging information about several Republican presidential candidates, including Mr. Trump. But The Free Beacon told the firm to stop doing research on Mr. Trump in May 2016, as Mr. Trump was clinching the Republican nomination.
In April 2016, Hillary Clintons presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee also retained Fusion GPS to research any possible connections between Mr. Trump, his businesses, his campaign team and Russia. Working for them, Fusion GPS retained a respected former British spy named Christopher Steele.

One of the very best.
Anywhere.
Yes, That's why I named the Slimes "Fake Identification Desk" and the authors as "Attention Misdirectors" because that's the entire purpose of this article, falsely identify the WFB and direct attention away from Hillary and the Rats.
The originator apparently saw how bogus it was and dropped it, so it only matters who used it, even though the DNC probably also knew it was bogus. After all, truth matters little to them.
Oh, my! Kristol’s daughter runs the “Beacon”. Haven’t heard this from talking heads.
Yep, that's why the WFB was a little careless in this.
Now look at Fusion & the spouse
Small town that DC.
Bill Kristol’s daughter’s husband is the editor
Yes, you are correct.
The turd doesn’t fall far from the anus.
I hope if Bill Kristol or Matthew Continetti attempt to enter the Capitol Hill Club dining room that they will be shown the door.
They are persona non grata in my book, and ought to be for Republicans anywhere!!
Isn’t there an ethics violation here? Fusion works for one party then works for opposing party; presumably using the same information. I’m sure there is a lawyer-client issue .
The 'alfa' lawsuit says exactly that the 'GOP' hired out Fusion GPS who hired Steele to do the research. They were looking into the russia connection and such. They dropped the info after Trump won the primary. The Dems later picked it up.
The Free Beacon might not have started the dossier, but it was started by affiliates from the GOP. That has been put forth in court.
Bill Kristol
“Alleged” is ONLY used when referring to DemocRATS!
Another fun research topic.
{}Go to the Washington Free Beacon website and check out the image associated with the story about Glenn Simpson.

Now, check out the name of the foundation shown in red which is the Reva and David Logan Foundation.
Burrowing a little further, there are a few names that are familiar: Obama, Emanuel, Chicago, etc.

It is a small world out there.
Winner.
Only reason to the connect the Dossier to “opposition research” is to give something unbelievable credibility. The Dossier is what used to be called “dirty tricks”. It’s made up stuff, not legitimate or even shady research.
It circulated for months in the MSM before publication. Even the fake news MSM knew it wasn’t credible and wouldn’t relate salacious details.
Everything I read says Steele wasn’t hired until after FB pulled out. Have no idea what lawsuit you are referring to. And, in our current legal system, just because something is filed in a court proceeding does not give it credence as truth.
