patients learning to cope with pain

Some chronic back pain is severe and unrelenting when the person tries to function. They can only try to find the most comfortable position in bed and that is their life. Can't work, can't concentrate, can't do most of the things we do.

For those kinds of pain, the drugs don't even do much, other than to knock them out for a few hours. They would give anything if someone could "teach them to cope" with it.

I'm not talking about those who are in such severe pain that they cannot function. Pain is their life; nobody wants to make them give up what for them is life or death. These are not the people who have caused the horrific situation that now exists.

I'm referring to pain killers being prescribed when they aren't necessary, and over prescribed when they are. For people who don't have that kind of pain that never goes away, coping without addictive poisons is the best way to avoid addiction.
