Exactly right, AC. This was smart politics by the Republicans for a change. So many folks don't know that the exact number of pro and con votes are known and embedded before a floor vote is taken. Then, Pubbies in tough districts are given "byes" to vote what will be best for them in their district....but the bill will still pass.
All parties have done this from time immemorial, it was done on my board when I was an elected county commissioner, it's done on the aldermanic etc. level...and is one of the oldest tricks in the world.
If 100% political purity is the standard, we'd have NO Republican senators and reps in congress at all.
