Saw the video of the rescue and it appeared the sails on the boat were neatly furled and stowed. Did they not know how to use them.>>???
Finally, with the technologiy available today such as EPIRB global emergency rescue beacons with GPS location and sattellite phones, anyone going to sea anywhere without them sholdn’t be in charge of a boat.
Crazy!
Comon core sailing made easy.

>> “I know nothing about sailing.” <<
Neither did they!
.
>> “ Dont they also make devices that once opened transmit an emergency beacon?” <<
Yes,an EPIRB, and they are required, to pass Coast Guard inspection.

Radio? What about the desalinator. They're the power hogs.
Don’t forget the WinGen.
I was thinking of a solar distiller. Katadyn also makes a hand pumped unit that can desalinate 1.2 gallons per hour
“How many dogs did they start out with?”
GMTA! I was thinking the same thing!
From looking at your page, I would guess you are about 6` tall.
Didn’t the CG have a reg you had to be six foot so you could walk ashore in case of an underway problem??? <: <: <:
Was your swim call in the Marianas Trench?
Used to ‘love’ it at swim call they would pass the word for ‘sharpshooters man your station.’
We either went over the side or - on occasion - they would open the bow ramp.
When I looked at our ‘sharpshooters’ I figured I would rather take my chances with the sharks - at least they didn’t have weapons ....

‘Slogans’ to live by.
We really musta been somthin special out there in Guam.
Deep ass water and all those Navy cans that needed towed back in. I still aint figured it all out?
Swimming Marianas was the only break we got on the 15 day sail from Guam to Hono.
They had a water purifier and a year of food, but no idea how to navigate? They'll now be making the rounds of the talk shows, and invariably asked to comment on whether they'd expected that Trump would still be POTUS by the time they're rescued. Thanks Hojczyk.
Now we learn they never activated their EPIRB and previously had been contacted by a Coast Guard vessel. They said they were ok.
Phony story. Publicity seekers.

...U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Scott Carr told The Associated Press that their review of the incident and subsequent interviews with the survivors revealed that they had the Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) aboard but never turned it on.
Parts of their story have been called into question, including the tropical storm the two say they encountered on their first night at sea in May. National Weather Service records show no organized storms in the region in early May...
...the Coast Guard made radio contact with a vessel that identified itself as the Sea Nymph in June near Tahiti, and the captain said they were not in distress and expected to make land the next morning. That was after the women reportedly lost their engines and sustained damage to their rigging and mast...
