Washington, D.C. - In the wake of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, and Nate; the multi-year drought across the west; and the wildfires in the nine western states, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) published a new report requested by Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) on the economic impacts of climate change. Senator Collins spoke on the Senate floor this morning about the report.
The final tally in economic losses from this years extreme weather events is not yet in but is expected to exceed $300 billion. The new GAO report states that the number and intensity of these extreme weather events will rise, costing taxpayers more than $1 trillion by 2039. If hurricane and wildfire seasons continue in a similar pattern to 2017, costs will exceed $6 trillion in 20 years.
The report, Climate Change: Information on Potential Economic Effects Could Help Guide Federal Efforts to Reduce Fiscal Exposure, recommends that the federal government utilize available information on the potential economic effects of climate change to help identify significant climate risks and craft appropriate federal responses such as the establishment of a strategy to guide federal investment to enhance resilience against future disasters.
Preparing for and reducing the impacts of climate change, as well as improving access to climate information for businesses, governments, and communities, should be a priority for Congress.
We cannot ignore the impact of climate change on our public health, our environment, and our economy. This nonpartisan GAO report Senator Cantwell and I requested contains astonishing numbers about the consequences of climate change for our economy and for the federal budget in particular. Our government cannot afford to spend more than $300 billion each year in response to severe weather events that are connected to warming waters, which produce stronger hurricanes, said Senator Collins. In Maine, our economy is inextricably linked to the environment. We are experiencing a real change in the sea life, which has serious implications for the livelihoods of many people across our state, including those who work in our iconic lobster industry. I hope the release of this analysis will cause all of us to think more broadly about this issue, take a harder look at the economic consequences of inaction, and use what is known about climate risks to inform federal policy.
My colleagues no longer have to take it from methe Government Accountability Office tells us climate change will cost taxpayers more than a half a trillion dollars this decade, and trillions more in the future unless we mitigate the impacts." said Senator Cantwell.
In 2007, Senator Collins and former Senator Joe Lieberman commissioned a report by the GAO to examine the fiscal risk of climate change for the National Flood Insurance Program and the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. The report found the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Homeland Security can and should do a better job of assessing the fiscal impacts of unchecked global warming. Additionally, the report revealed that insurance programs had not developed a long-term strategy to deal with the effects of global climate change, putting them far behind private insurers that have incorporated these risks into their overall assessments.

Here's an old song I like.
Singing In The Rain - Singing In The Rain (Gene Kelly) [HD Widescreen]
There’s always been wildfires in the West. It was just sparsely populated years ago, so the wildfires did little damage.
Droughts? There always have been periods of drought. California had an awful drought in the 1860’s. They are nothing new.
Hurricanes? One year in the 1880’s there were NINE hurricanes that hit the United States.
Bottom line.....wildfires, droughts and hurricanes have been with us since time immemorial.
Collins and Cantwell are screwballs.
There is definitely something wrong when senators care more about climate change and its bloated effects than they do about legal citizens and crimes committed on them by illegals and gangbangers.
Or am I missing something?
< Senators Collins,Cantwell Release GAO Report Showing Climate Change Could Cost the Government >
We can only hope that it Costs the Government both Collins and Cantwell. Permanently.
Another mark against Collins who is already a Democrat in all but title.
Delingpole: Now 400 Scientific Papers in 2017 Say Global Warming Is a Myth

When I reported earlier this year on the 58 scientific papers published in 2017 that say global warming is a myth the greenies heads exploded.
Since then, that figure has risen to 400 scientific papers.
Can you imagine the misery and consternation and horror this is going to cause in the corrupt, rancid, rent-seeking world of the Climate Industrial Complex?
I can. It will look something like this.
Just to be clear, so the greenies cant bleat about being misrepresented, here is what these various papers say:

Yet,they get elected as Senators.
Climate Change seems to be very good for the Pander Bears!
My colleagues no longer have to take it from methe Government Accountability Office tells us climate change will cost taxpayers more than a half a trillion dollars this decade, and trillions more in the future unless we mitigate the impacts.”
Yes, the GAO. That paragon of accounting practices.
The annual losses are projected from -1.9 billion to 54.8 billion per year.
This sort of projection, on economics, decades into the future, based on speculation on future weather events from questionable mathematical models, is pure Garbage In, Garbage Out.
There are numerous subjective assumptions about the nature of reality that go into both sets of models.
The climate models have not done a good job of predicting the climate future.
Economic models have done an even worse job of predicting economic futures.
So you put two sets of bad models together, and claim that they give you a look into the future.
It is just plain garbage.
If they could actually produce useful models like this, that worked, they could become billionaires in short order.
This is political propaganda paid for by the Obama administration.
GAO was ordered to come up with a product, they obeyed. The idea that such an exercise is at all useful is the height of hubris. But they were ordered, so they did what they were ordered to do, using the assumptions they knew the Obama administration would accept.
There’s that word “could” = No Way
Collins needs to go. Yesterday
There is no man caused climate change. Climate change is primarily caused by the Sun.
It would be better if Susan Collins got rid of Obamacare instead of foolishly worrying about something that we have no control over.
It is time for her to retire.
Typical Dem-witt rat, purchased her seat in the U.S.Senate, via if I recall correctly she was in software business {she worked as an executive for RealNetworks.}
So, if your a democRAT, and have the means to write a VERY BIG CHECK, for your campaign, it is sold via the local fish wrappers {formerly know as newspapers} a great thing for the people.
There’s that word could again. Because they have no definitive answers. So again, why would we jump headlong into something that “could” happen, when we know the remedies will have large negative effects? If and when we can definitively prove that these fears have merit, then we need to address them. Since this whole theory has come upon us, all they have done is to create flawed models that have proven themselves to not only be wrong, but drastically overstated. I think the reason for that is because things & ideas always sell better if genuine fear is able to be evoked upon the majority. Especially if the majority have been brainwashed while simultaneously having them made dumber by an educational system designed to produce that outcome.
"GAO report reveals that by 2039, climate change will cost U.S. taxpayers more than $1 trillion"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponents Argument
Patriots are reminded that even if politically correct global warming had been proven by the consistent results of scientific method-based experiments, it remains that the states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to tax and spend for such a purpose.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
"The smart crooks long ago figured out that getting themselves elected to federal office to make unconstitutional tax laws to fill their pockets is a much easier way to make a living than robbing banks." me
"Federal career lawmakers probably laugh all the way to the bank to deposit bribes for putting loopholes for the rich and corporations in tax appropriations laws, Congress actually not having the express constitutional authority to make most laws where domestic policy is concerned. Such laws are based on stolen state powers and uniquely associated stolen state revenues." me
So not only is federal funding for politically correct global warming unconstitutional, and probably unaccountable as well, but consider the following.
The GAO needs to be required by law to publicly report when Congress attempts to spend citizen's hard-earned tax dollars for things that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers. Congress is arguably trying to spend stolen state revenues, revenues stolen by means of unconstitutional federal taxes, when it does such things.
Patriots are also reminded that the 2016 elections are arguably not over yet, patriots needing to finish the job that they started when they elected Pres. Trump.
More specifically, patriots need to make sure that there are plenty of state sovereignty-respecting, Trump-supporting patriot candidates on the primary ballots for the 2018 elections, and then pink-slip Trump-hating career lawmakers by sending patriot candidate lawmakers to DC on election day.
Susie C, is Globull Warming more important to you than taxes, illegals, spending or defense? If it is, you are a nutcase...
