I believe you have hit on the whole crux of the matter. The idea was to increase his exposure. Now people are supposed to go sample his music and, hopefully, buy it. At some point, all marketing tricks get old and fail. Society will move on to something else.
The question is, when does bad “liberal only” marketing hurt you? The woman who Tweeted a photo with Trump’s severed head comes to mind. It was pure liberal marketing and it destroyed what I will, charitably, call her career.
He sang the massive hit “Stay With Me” which was found to be a palgiarism of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.”
Especially by white “ entertainers “. Minorities are far less interested in patronizing them.
