should be paid hourly: when you need crack, you need crack NOW!
So, you think that workers getting their pay is a bad thing?
My employer just went from weekly to bi-weekly pay. I had got used to weekly pay and wouldn’t mind going back to it.
Daily seems overmuch. But why not have the choice?
seems like it makes everyone day laborers.
companies should do what works for them.
employees can choose if they’d like to work for a company or not.
Instant gratification. When they can’t balance their checking accounts, they will wail and moan.
Wonder what that’s like. I get paid once a month.
It was a long time ago, but I once worked in a once-a-month system. It was great once you got over the hump of waiting a long time for the first paycheck, and once you adjust to the cycle. Most of our bills are due monthly. A monthly paycheck makes budgeting ridiculously simple.
My favorite was twice per month. The 15th and the 1st (or the previous Friday if either was on a holiday or weekend.). Made budgeting a snap when I was younger.
Lots of accounting/records go along with shorter time-frames. How many pay statements do you want to accrue/amass to show all the deductions - and some, like insurance, etc., would be broken down into many micro payments....
I remember reading about the behaviorist B.F. Skinner studying various ways of “paying” animals and people. He found that what he called a “variable ratio” payout produced the most effort from both people and animals. At frequent intervals you got a chance to be paid, but you never know when you would actually get paid and how much. Basically, the same way one armed bandits work — you never know if the next “pull” gets you a prize. People would work harder for lottery tickets (that paid out the same amount over time as a stable salary) then get that stable salary. Even though the variable schedule makes budgeting difficult. And, in general, the more frequently you get paid, the harder you will work. Now, people involuntarily and unconsciously slack off a little when they get the paycheck.
What a nice idea. Now we can go broke on a daily basis instead of weekly, or bi- weekly, or monthly. This is really a bad idea because it will drive the pay-day-loan Sharks crazy.
“Workers are notified, typically on their smartphones, at the end of their shifts that they have an hour to tap half their pay and are asked if they wish to do so. The money is instantly downloaded onto their debit cards.”
And goes for beer, cigarettes, & lottery tickets. That’s only the legal stuff if you get my drift.
Anyone who can’t budget their expenses one whole month out is, well, you know.....
Does it remove more in taxes?
Have you ever done payroll? For more than a dozen people.
I have about 10 percent master clockers.. the other 90 forget their badge, double swipe, etc. I do a few minutes of payroll daily, but it’s not polished up daily.. don’t get me started on the missing an entire day, I have to call, email.. chase down.
It’s not hard, it’s just not pretty until I finalize it.
My dad’s friend owns a rooming house, and some of them who work get paid daily. Me I like weekly pay...
I take it you’re one of those people who spends every cent you can get your hands on the second you can get your hands on it?
Also in the realm of psychology, researchers have long known that when assessing children, IQ isn’t the biggest predictor of future success, being able to delay gratification is.
