President Trump early Monday disputed the account of his phone call with a Gold Star widow, who provided a description of the call earlier that morning in an interview.
I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation! Trump wrote on Twitter, referencing one of the Green Berets killed earlier this month in an ambush in Niger.
Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation! 8:30 AM - Oct 23, 2017
The presidents tweet comes after Myeshia Johnson during an interview on ABCs Good Morning America confirmed Rep. Frederica Wilsons (D-Fla.) description of the call.
What he said was yes the president said that he knew what he signed up for, but it hurts anyways. And I was it made me cry because I was very angry at the tone of his voice and how he said it. He couldnt remember my husbands name, Johnson told host George Stephanopoulos.
Trump denied Wilsons description of the call last week, but Johnson on Monday said the congresswomans account was not fabricated.
Whatever Ms. Wilson said was not fabricated, what she said was 100 percent correct, said Johnson.
Why would we fabricate something like that? she later added.
Wilson first provided her description of the call last Tuesday, saying Trump told the widow that her husband knew what he signed up for."
Trump repeatedly denied Wilson's version of the call, as did White House chief of staff John Kelly during a rare appearance on Thursday at the White House press briefing.
There are several available, showing her numerous tats, and together with some unsavory relatives
Sounds just like her.
At some point though, Trump has to stop responding.
Let Rep Wilson and the grieving widow (hopefully not) make the spectacles themselves.
Oh, he’s winning. Trump doesn’t play all his cards at once. Rejoice in it! I’m sure there’s a recording of his call to the widow. To be released when the insane rhetoric gets to 10.
Giving the crazies just enough rope then lowering the boom.
That’s what I keep saying. Deflection.
“Sir, thats retarded”
Nope.
“Sir, dat retawded “.
FIFY
This media circus is all about making money off Sgt Johnson’s death.
There is a go fund me account with $690,000.
Whenever the cash flow slows down, someone else comes forward to get this into the media spotlight again and go fund me donations start picking up again
Please. It’s the press and the family that are keeping the story going. If you weren’t blinded by Trump hate, you could see this for yourself.
Target Wilson’s constituents for dramatic federal spending cuts.
Right, I wish he had one for this call and he makes it public.
Can’t tell me EVERY call the Prez. makes isn’t recorded?!
He should call their bluff, “I’m willing to release a copy of the call in FULL, given the OK.”
Enough of the back-n-forth.
Lob that turkey into THEIR court and see how fast they\MSM\Left drop the hot potato.
With due regrets on the loss of Mrs. Johnson's husband, her usage of "whatever" instead of "everything" in this statement implies that she has not heard all of, and therefore can not vouch for, the accuracy of the entirety of Wilson's claims. I sincerely hope that this nor ANY surviving family member would NEVER knowingly & willingly allow themself nor the memory and sacrifice of their late loved one to be so blanketedly used in the cause of partisanized politics. Unfortunately, I do feel as if this issue is being conflated to distract from the true Russia collusion.
Having General Kelly's testimony, Trump would be best to issue a respectful public statement of condolence and thanks to this woman and anyone who loses a service member and MOVE ON. There is nothing to be gained from a tit-4-tat with a military widow and everything to be gained from turning the spotlight to where it belongs.
Excuse me. Now I see why you’re a fantasy writer. That reply was pure fantasy. Everything Trump tweets is reported. This would have died had he let it be quiet. Now he’s propped a crazy congresswoman and has caused the reputation of a Marine General to drop because of his misrepresentation of the congresswoman speech at the FBI building dedication.
As a Gold Star Mom, I couldn’t agree more. I would not have been offended in the least by anything that was alleged to have been said by President Trump. I have been most appreciative from inauguration day on of the respect that Trump shows our military.
It’s not an issue of the recipient’s skin color nor ignorance so much as intent and perhaps grief. When that “he knew what...” quote is taken in its full context (which Wilson/ilk conveniently left out), it talks to the soldier’s heroism and nation’s thanks. Now Trump is oft tone deaf and bumbly, but he’s not one to show blatant disrespect to a fallen soldier’s widow and I’m more inclined to believe Gen. Kelly’s testament than a so-called congresswoman that’s been out to get Trump anyway she can.
You’re blinded by Trump hate. The widow has a gofundme acct up and running. She and Wilson—with the avid and ardent help of the press—will keep this going as long as there’s a buck to be made.
If you value your health don’t get between Wilson and a camera or microphone.
No way there isn’t a recording. If nothing else, the NSA has one.
What world does a go fund me account have to do with news coverage? This story lives because Trump continues to tweet about it and sends General Kelly out with a trumped up story about a speech that was quite different than described.
First of all, I don’t think Trump is either tone deaf or bumbling. Quite the opposite, in fact. And secondly, long experience with African-Americans in the workforce has convinced me that they are thin-skinned and often ignorant of ordinary terminology, expressions or words. Think of their blatant ignorance with words such as “niggardly,” “jewelry” and sometimes “picnic.”
