The Canadian province of Quebec has passed a sweeping ban on face coverings barring public workers from wearing the niqab or burqa and obliging citizens to unveil when riding public transit or receiving government services ushering in a law believed to be the first of its kind in North America.
The legislation was adopted on Wednesday, capping off two years of work by the provinces Liberal government to address the issue of state neutrality. The resulting law has been condemned by critics who say it deliberately targets Muslim women and will fuel the provinces simmering debate on identity, religion and tolerance.
Philippe Couillard, the premier of Quebec, was defensive as he addressed the new law. We are just saying that for reasons linked to communication, identification and safety, public services should be given and received with an open face, he told reporters. We are in a free and democratic society. You speak to me, I should see your face, and you should see mine. Its as simple as that.

Does the ban also include hoodies and ski-masks?
Not sure that's in his power...we'll see.
Smarmy arrogant Canucks. We should pass laws the same as theirs about who can and can’t act in movies and TV shows.
Best comment of the post!
"in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo, and Infidel of every denomination."

1. Technically speaking, Queen Elizabeth is the Sovereign of the parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy of Canada. Unless you frequently use Canadian money or are particularly savvy with regard to Canadian politics, you may not have known they had any kind of monarchy.Oct 4, 2013
Better than the Germans who put everything into one word!
Just a thought but - maybe instead of trying to ban religious expression, the Canucks should rethink their opposition to freedom of speech, which might include contradicting errors and exposing the FRAUD that theocrats tend to perch themselves upon?
Like that one time - when Muhamad's wife's grifter, Hebrew-gospel quoting, cousin wrote the Quran...
"Islam did not rise except through Ali's sword and Khadijah's wealth,"

Well, not exactly.

In Canada - Evidently some errors are more equal than others.
Meanwhile down South...
Gonna make playing goalie a lot more interesting...
Fatwa on the way...
Sorry, I can’t fully support this ban. Ban the use of face covering before the law (government issued ID, interaction with the police or courts, etc) I support. But a citizen has the right to protect their privacy and with the wide use of cameras, facial masks / coverings have a purpose and a use.
I thought it was aimed at facial hair.
French in Quebec went its own way 250 years ago, just as English did 225 years ago when we parted ways with the “mother country”. Parisian French is now noticeably different.
Better than the Germans who put everything into one word!
Reminds me or a warning stenciled on a crate—
NO GEFINGERPOKEN!!
I wonder what that would say in English...
Quebec and I have never agreed about anything before.
It's a profound irony that they should be the first to deal with the obvious.
Nothing is as antithetical to Freedom of speech and peaceful protest as facial covering while wielding lethal weapons and bricks and huge rocks.
For now, I will just pinch myself.
I can't wait to see how they will enforce that.
Me? I would not only arrest, but collect mugshots, fingerprints, DNA and meaningful jail time.
As well as membership in the "do not fly club" and permanent ban to firearm permit.
Don't be silly.
Unless you know that antifa has invaded ski resorts now?
Tres
Merci!
Paris was my favorite foreign city until 1993. Haven't been back since. Koranimal barbarians and garbage everywhere... but I repeat myself.
My French is adequate, even after 24 years of almost no use.. Quebec is a lot closer, too.
Worth a try!
