Google Maps has removed a feature that informed users how many calories they could burn by walking, which took the form of counting how many cupcakes would be burned off based on the distance, following complaints by users that claimed it was triggering.
According to the Telegraph, Users have reacted badly to cupcake metric on social media describing it as shaming and some saying it could be a trigger for people suffering from eating disorders.
In a post on Twitter, Taylor Lorenz, a reporter for the Hill and Mic, called the feature triggering.
I guess Google maps now automatically shows you how many calories youd burn if you walk somewhere instead of driving. Oh my god and if you click walking directions it auto tells you how much food youd burn off what the [censored], Lorenz proclaimed. Also it looks like theres no way to turn this feature off what the hell. Do they realize how extremely triggering something like this is for ppl who have had eating disorders? Not to mention just generally shamey.

Friggin’ snowflakes!
DANG!
I don’t eat cupcakes, I’m on a ketogenic diet.
Can they display calories burned in bacon?
Are food groups now racist?
Chitterlings, greens, hush puppies, watermelon, and chicken/w/waffles, definitely.
That’s so gay...
Now you've done it. It's quarter-to-1AM and suddenly I need to go into the kitchen and cook bacon.
BACON.
BACON!!
Thanks, I needed that. :-)
You know what? GOOD. These lardass snowflakes are all leftists anyway, so the sooner they die of obesity-related disease, the better. Have another cupcake, snowflake.
I guess they need to block things like “diet” “calorie” and other such things from ever showing up on search pages - in fact, it would be best to just return blank pages -— just as long as DuckDuckGo keeps working right....
I’d love that app. Why not make it available to those who want it?
You’re obviously a Norm Lenhart disciple. Look up existential cage theory.
Interesting new twist on a very old idea. Look up oubliette.
