President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell reiterated Monday that they want to see a tax bill passed by the end of the year.
"I really believe that we have a very good chance of getting the taxes done ... hopefully fairly long before the end of the year," the president said in a hastily scheduled, roughly 40-minute news conference following a lunch with the Kentucky Republican.
McConnell added: "The goal is to get it done by the end of the year."

It was a near perfectly executed presser by The President. One of his best. His power is increasing and it’s palpable. I especially loved his comments on Hillary and the dems being against taxcuts for the middle class and that it will cost them seats in the midterms.
Are there a lot of polls on the 2020 Republican Primary?
Somebody got taken to the woodshed.
In trouble? Wasn’t he just reelected?
That isn’t going to happen. It would be a simple fix to get these leftist attention but McWeasal isn’t going to do any such thing.
I hope Trump has realized that McWeasal is not going to get on board with the Trump agenda. They may pass a pitiful tax reform IF that. I don’t look for anything out of the Republican senate and Trump should learn by now what backstabbing aholes The Little Sh*t Ryan and McWeasal are.
Trump should pull them aside and say, tax reform and cuts now or the congressional subsidy for obamacare is GONE. That they understand.
I seriously don’t know if I buy into your position. Winning Delaware was just about impossible for her based on her type of conservative policies. Yes, maybe some other groups might not have liked her and did a few things but she had a lot to overcome. Just saying.
She had a lot to overcome, yes, thanks to their hardball smearing tactics. The Rove attacks were beyond the pale, foaming-at-the-mouth, and even to this day they don’t miss an opportunity to take a shot or three.
There is no diminishing what they did to her, not just some locals here and there. It was vile, straight up. Of course, this is what they do to all who aren’t in their “club”. Standard operating procedure, i.e. Hermain Cain, Sarah Palin, DJT on a national level, but this also happens at the state level. Local levels vary, no doubt.
The best place for old turkey neck on the Trump train is tied to the cow catcher.
That was the first thing I thought - somebody got yelled at and torn a new one.
It’s not going to pass if it strips away tax breaks for state income and property taxes. Folks can bloviate away about ‘high tax states being subsidized (although these same states often send more to DC than they get)... other things are probably pretty much not only negotiable but not that one, at least as far as I read the House.
I’m not a fan of McConnell but he’s really not the problem here. The problem in the U.S. Senate is that a lot of voters in this country send A-holes like John McCain and Susan Collins to Washington.
It’s often difficult to tell where some republicans actually stand because the big media liars keep telling the public all republicans stand against Trump. I know a half dozen are traitors but I’m not buying the rest of the old media narrative.
Notably, GOP fundraising has been below expectations -- except for small donations energized by appeals from Trump. Meanwhile, Bannon's public attacks on the GOP establishment and his threats to primary recalcitrant GOP Congressmen have made even well-funded GOP Congressmen in secure seats nervous about their political futures.
Yet, say what one wants about Trump, he knows not just how to fight but also how to deal. I surmise that, if translated, Trump's kind words for Mitch McConnell were a way of saying, "Now that I have accepted your surrender, Mitch, I am glad to say that we can get along just fine."
I am betting Bannon and Trump mined the data, and had talks with McConnell donors and other rino donor’s and have ways to expose their shady work...that’s my guess, and Trump, behind closed doors made an offer McConnell may have wet his turtle shell over. In a. Almost voice, he pulled out the brass knuckles.

“and quash talk of a rocky relationship”
that could well be true of their personal relationship, but clearly their politics vastly diverge, and it’s undeniable that Congress has essentially done bupkis in getting any of the major parts of Trump’s agenda enacted.
Mitch McConnell will work with McCain to block any tax cuts.
McConnell is a tortoise. Hes a turtle in terms of the speed at which he moves. Trump is literally pulling him along with him in this presser. And McConnell is reacting favorably in this regard. Trump also said something this is incredible the subject of health care and drug companies came up. Well, not just drug companies. I forget what the question was, but the point that Trump made was health care companies losing subsidies because he has eliminated them gave massive amounts of money to politicians. And he looked at McConnell. He said, They may have given money to you, Mitch. But Im not interested in their money. I dont need the money of health care companies, drug companies. I dont need it.
Mitch will gladly pay on “Tuesday” for being given a pass today.
Ditch is a total can-kicker.
