Back in the 50's and 60s, my dear departed Dad was a bar owner. He would not allow unescorted women in his bar.

His philosophy: "Women alone in a bar is nuthin' but trouble!"

Hard to imagine, but it was never even challenged back then.

There were taverns in Boston during the 40s and 50s that wouldn’t allow women in at all.

In Canada back in the ‘50s and early ‘60s, the two entries to a tavern or beer parlour were labelled “Gentlemen” and “Ladies and Escorts”.

Good times...
