Jeff Flake’s Lesson for Republicans: Cross Trump at Your Own Risk
The Failing New York Times ^ | 15 OCt 17 | SHERYL GAY STOLBERG

Posted on 10/15/2017 5:00:14 PM PDT by SkyPilot

Before Bob Corker, there was Jeff Flake.

Mr. Flake, the even-tempered Republican senator from Arizona, has for months offered stinging critiques of President Trump’s character, demeanor and truthfulness — the same message forcefully echoed a week ago by Mr. Corker, a Republican colleague from Tennessee, who warned that Mr. Trump’s reckless behavior could lead to “World War III.”

But there is one crucial difference between the two: Mr. Flake, unlike Mr. Corker, is running for re-election. And now he finds himself in grave political peril.

Mr. Flake is perhaps the most endangered Senate Republican, with an approval rating in one recent poll of just 18 percent among Arizonans. Mr. Trump has savaged Mr. Flake as “toxic” and a “flake,” and has encouraged a primary challenge against him that has left the senator squeezed not only from the left but also the right.

His fate is an object lesson for other Republicans who might consider voicing dire thoughts about the president’s fitness: Cross Mr. Trump, and your political career could well be over.

Mr. Flake, a Mormon known more for his decency than his independent streak, said he had no regrets.

In an interview here, he ticked off some of his earliest criticisms of the president — from the days when Mr. Trump peddled the false theory that President Barack Obama was born in Kenya, to the time Mr. Trump referred to Mexican immigrants as “rapists,” to his call for a complete ban on travel to the United States by Muslims — before looking up and stopping himself. Continue reading the main story

“In which of those instances,” the senator asked, “should I not have spoken out? At what point should you not stand up and say, ‘This is not right'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2194952/Mitt-Romney-owes-25-000-130-year-old-debt-left-great-grandfather.html

How Mitt Romney ‘owes $25,000 on a 130-year-old debt’ after his great-grandfather skipped bail because his neighbors thought him a ‘mass of putrid pus’
Author Judith Freeman claims her great-grandfather William Flake bailed Mitt Romney’s great-grandfather out of jail for $1,000
Miles Park Romney had been arrested on polygamy charges
Romney never repaid Flake and instead fled to Mexico with his family
A local newspaper editor referred to Romney as ‘a mass of putrid pus and rotten goose pimples with the face of a baboon and the character of a louse’

(snip)

By the 1880s, Arizona territorial officials began rounding up polygamists after a new law was passed. Both Flake and Romney were thrown in jail.
Freeman claims Romney had no money and could not afford the $1,000 bail — a large sum in those days — so Flake paid to have both of them freed.
Romney repaid the kindness by fleeing to Mexico with his family, including Mitt Romney’s grandfather Gaskell Romney. He started an enclave in Chihuahua where Mitt’s father George Romney was born.
Flake stood trial in Arizona and spent six months in jail.

Jeff Flake hasn’t lost yet. Isn’t this spiking the ball on the 20 yard line?

Not really. Flake is polling so badly behind Kelli Ward, that it's obvious to even the NY Times that he's a goner.

This B&^ch will get the nod since his Mormon buddy ranchers need all that cheap slave illegal labor.

I aint voting for this piano tooth p%^ck.

Sleazy bastard.

For all of you who dont know AZ. Nearly the entire eastern part of AZ (other than the reservations) is run by Mormons and if you ever intended on setting up a business there? You have to either join the Church or contribute to it in some way to survive. They DO NOT want outsiders moving in.

Kelly Ward.

No, but I didn’t want Thad Cochran to stay in office, either. I’m just saying, until Flake is gone it’s premature to declare victory.

That’s what I thought about Thad Cochran and others. Bill Clinton was dead in 1994. Until it happens, it doesn’t count.

I think Trump said some thing early in campaign about some illegals were rapists (which is a fact from crime stats) and they are not the best of Mexico and S America that have been coming.

With the help of IDIOT Republicans + The Left, he can still beat his PRIMARY Challenger

Not a good sign when an article starts with a lie...but this is the NY Times, after all.

Trump didn't say that Obie was born in Kenya (nor, for that matter, did Sheriff Arpaio)

They said the birth certificate was fake.

The birth certificate image is a fraud.
He used a SS# that was not his.
No one has ever been able to examine any document.
The internet image says his father is a foreign national.
That alone makes him not a natural born citizen and ineligible.
EVERYONE in the District of Corruption knows it.

Like the Wicked Witch of the West in “The Wizard of Oz”, Flake is a snowflake who is crying out “I’m melting”.

Keep the heat on conservatives. I want to watch him drop up like a little puddle in the middle of the desert, never to be seen again.

“Mr. Flake is perhaps the most endangered Senate Republican, with an approval rating in one recent poll of just 18 percent among Arizonans.”

Those would be “The Mormon Faithful,” who are all in with the Mormon Church’s goal of bringing “newly converted Mexican saints” into this country from Mexico.
The Mormon Church is the second largest church in Mexico behind the Catholics, and in terms of immigration policy the Catholics are in lock step with the Mormons. They both fancy their “tenets” as being above the government’s laws.
