Vienna (AFP) - Austria's political "whizz-kid" Sebastian Kurz was on course Sunday to become Europe's youngest leader, potentially in coalition with the far-right, after his conservative party looked to have triumphed in elections.
Kurz's People's Party (OeVP) won 30.5 percent of the vote, followed by Chancellor Christian Kern's Social Democrats (SPOe) on 27.1 percent and the far-right Freedom Party (FPOe) on 25.9 percent, projections on public TV showed.
Kurz, 31, nicknamed "wunderwuzzi", ("whizzkid") took over the OeVP in May and managed to attract supporters in droves by depicting himself as a breath of fresh air, talking tough on immigration and vowing to slash taxes and red tape.
"I promise I will fight for great change in this country. It's time to establish a new political style and a new culture in this country," Kurz said Sunday.
But to form a government Kurz will have to enter a coalition with one of the other parties.
The most likely partner is seen as the populist FPOe of Heinz-Christian Strache, 48, although this is far from guaranteed.
"We are waiting for the final result," OeVP general secretary Elisabeth Koestinger said Sunday.
"We will form a coalition for the next five years with the party that can enable us to achieve and change the most in this country."

They’ve elected Justin Bieber! Ach du lieber!
Hard to say but his selection by the Republican type Uniparty of Austria (Peoples Party) and the positions he has taken are the result of the Freedom Party’s rise in Austria and the need to stop them from being the biggest party.
As it is, Kurz with his positions will be forced into coalition with the FPO instead of the other big Uniparty the Social Democrats.
“Lets not have another Justin Trudeau. Please.”
It is possible to have a youngster with his Shiite together. I certainly did at age, and my boys have it together and are younger than him.
Proportional representation helps create non-majority parties and coalitions of fractured parties, just in order to govern.
You would think it would reflect more democratic coalition governments but western Europe’s growth of its uni-party political elites was brought about with proportional representation government elections in many western European countries. It has worked like Obamacare - getting some rule or agenda enacted after which no true majority arises with which to undo it; so the socialist crap just marches on.
2nd place between the FPO and Socialists is very close.
Sounds like the Socialists are taking themselves out of a “grand coalition” making a coalition on the right the only option.
. . . by editors like those at Yahoo, who are illiterate, even in slang. In a culture where everyone gets a participation award, maybe they didn't grasp that there is a real-world difference between wizard-like intelligence and simply knowing how to pee.
And while “whiz” has been used to mean someone so smart, his mind zooms past everyone else’s, a “whizzer” was always a “pisser,” as far as I know. No one goes into the woods to take a “wiz,” and “whizz” by itself is strictly . . . urinary.
“far-right” is the label used in Europe for someone who’s only a smidgen to the left of center.
Das Ahnood.
Battling the Big Red Cheese as usual :-)
You think it was a “misspelling” of wiz-kid in the yahoo article?
Think again. Intentional slam. Totally.
Yahoo is loaded with, well, yahoos.
No. Whizz is an alternative spelling of whiz in all its definitions and slang usages.
Where can I look this up?
(Maybe the OED, going back to the original Norman or Anglo-Saxon. . . No kidding, it might be there.)
So how do you spell “Bear Whiz Beer”? “Bare”? “Whizz”? “Bear” as it sounds in Rear”?
I really don’t care. I just hope that Austria finally finds a decent identity amidst the ruins of Europe.

Forget about labels working in Europe. The Nazi Party...99-percent socialist in nature from 1930 on...is always deemed right-wing.
LMAO!! Proofing is their friend!!
What a contrast—looks like a teenager and a 100-year-old man.
Lol!!
