The irony is that the NFL is the one professional league composed almost solely of US citizens. Baseball has Latino and Asian players, Basketball has European players, and Hockey has Canadian and European players.
The Asian players are the best example simply because of their cultural norms. A Japanese ball player in the U.S. would set himself on fire in the outfield before he would even dream of kneeling for the national anthem.
Those are not citizens in any way.
