I was going to go there and say that I’m willing to bet that policy changes are the rut cause of these fires...but it’s hard to blame the Dems for doing such - they get to ‘clear the land’ of development and blame it on the Republicans at the same time.

You might consider adding sabotage to the possible causes. There seems to be several organizations, both foreign and domestic, that might be happy with the destruction, not to mention firebugs.
