Pedro Cortes, Pennsylvanias secretary of state, abruptly resigned from office Wednesday, three weeks after his agency came under criticism for a glitch that may have allowed thousands of ineligible immigrants statewide to vote.
Cortes departure was announced in a 349-word personnel update emailed from Gov. Wolfs office that offered no reason and focused almost entirely on his replacement, interim Secretary of State Robert Torres.
Just 14 of the words were about Cortes, who also served as secretary of state from 2003 to 2010 under Gov. Ed Rendell.
J.J. Abbott, a spokesman for Wolf, said he could not offer an explanation for Cortes departure.
As secretary of state, Cortes served as the states top election official. His departure comes a week after State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, chairman of the House State Government Committee, and 15 of his colleagues sent Cortes a letter to express our dire concerns about the disclosure three weeks ago that legal resident noncitizens in Pennsylvania had been offered the chance to register to vote while applying for or renewing drivers licenses at PennDot service centers.

It wasn’t a ‘glitch’ that allowed illegal immigrants to vote.
That’s impossible. Illegals aren’t “allowed” to vote. We hear it all the time. /sarc
DEMOCRAT......that is all you need to know https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedro_Cort%C3%A9s
oh yeah, just some “glitch”..... ooops, we had no idea this was happening..... ha haaaaa
Mission accomplished - now run away!
“...for a glitch that may have allowed thousands of ineligible immigrants statewide to vote....”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA....sounds just like my state, Mexifornia. Just good DemocRATS doing their thing. Stuffing the ballot box...right out of the RAT playbook.
La raza will hire him...Or acorn or some derivative thereof...he is worthy of promotion.
So “a glitch” is now the vernacular for “voter fraud”, I guess.
This is just more of the Rats in the media twisting the language, downplaying their fraud and malfeasance.
Another ‘RAT bites the dust.
Jail him.
No, it was deliberate. He needs to do time, but he will get a free pass, and he will walk.
Getting him out of the way before possible federal prosecution?
They tried to win one for Hillary here in PA with the Democrats in charge of the SOS office, but they couldn’t rig the vote enough in the end to stop the Trump wave.
So long Pedro... See you in the funny papers...
He could always do a Budd Dwyer.
He’s leaving the job just ahead of the posse. Would love to see Trump get on the tube & rail about this.....
These were legal visa holders, who are permitted to apply for a non-citizen license. At the end of a panel of questions, people applying for a first-time driver's license are offered the option to register to vote.
Under PA law, the photo-ID clerk is not permitted to direct their response in any way. In fact, I stood behind a Chinese national and his wife several years ago, who spoke very little English who were completely baffled by the question about whether they wanted to vote. When they asked the clerk for assistance, her reply -- to people who clearly were not eligible to vote as US citizens -- was "I cannot help you to answer this question. You have to answer it for yourself." So, coming from a country where it might be dangerous to answer "no" to even a very minor government official, they answered "yes."
