One of the worse effects of sentencing someone to prison time is what it does to that persons health.
Which is why anyone on the cusp of a term of imprisonment is really much, much better off seeing a dentist and a doctor before they go in.
Another problem that anyone who has spent any time in a jail or prison knows even in a lawyer visiting room is that prisons underspend on HVAC systems, if they spend at all. In the summer, jails and prisons are sweltering. In the winter, people in federal prisons often have to put on extra clothes to sleep.
The Weather Channel has been bringing a lot of attention to the notion that the climate is changing and that what people are doing is causing that change. Sure, some folks deny climate change, but some folks also would rather pray than go to the doctor. Its a pluralistic society.
But assuming you dont think the earth is flat, one horrifying effect of climate change is what its doing to people in prison.
It should go without saying that even people in prison are people, and that they shouldnt die from overheating.
As this administration starts up and revs the engines of mass incarceration, and as the planet gets hotter and hotter and our weather more erratic, this problem is going to get worse.

if they pay for the unit and the electric bill, I would allow it.
This was an amazing article—I guess climate-change can be shoe-horned into any topic.
Think of it as witch-doctors in action.
Prisons are not hotels inducing you to return to their hospitality.
Cruel and unusual. Somebody do something.
With temperatures expected to rise by a quarter of a degree over the next century, this will become a HUUUGE problem. I think this guy needs to take the obvious first step in fixing it. Tell his clients to quit breaking the law.
Slow news day alert.
What a non-critical thinker.
He is opining completely outside his area of expertise, using the leftist cause de jour to promote his personal gripes.
The way of the world.
But he goes out of his way to alienate and anger over half the population of the country.
“Sure, some folks deny climate change, but some folks also would rather pray than go to the doctor. Its a pluralistic society.”
I am sure he considers himself well educated, wise, and compassionate.
Now they’re just BSing us for fun.
Many elderly not in prison have died from the heat. Take care of them first!
If keeping it hotter in the summer and cooler in the winter helps save energy, aren’t our prisons doing their duty to save the environment?
I worked in a prison for 6+ years. In my area, the state of Georgia paid extra for the HVAC. In the summer it was 68 in my area, in the winter, it was 90.
They didn’t/don’t scrimp on the HVAC in Georgia anyway.
Shyster lawyer BSs the court. Film at 11.
I’m sure the various “Law & Order” shows will have both of those pics as plots for episodes.
“Law & Order”: Created by (((Dick Wolf))).
There’s only SVU. Cause it’s only one left they have to tweak every “ripped from the headlines” case to fit their premise by adding a little rape or child abuse.
Really, only one left? Ok. I watched a couple CISUVEDU.NET repeats.
What leftist fantasy crapfests those shows are.
And all the cops on those show do is basically entrap everybody; 95% of what they do would be thrown out anyway.
The flagship went down several years ago. They had Anthony Anderson and some cuck White guy as the cops at that point, which is part of the reason the ratings declined, they also strayed too much from the “formula”. If I see an older ep on “TNT” or something I sometimes watch it, if it’s an Anthony Anderson ep, no dice. They tied “Gunsmoke” with 20 seasons. If they brought it back with a decent cast and sticking to the old formula I think it would get eyeballs, from old people and me. ;d
The D’Nofrio vehicle “Criminal Intent” was sent to the junk yard after being driven after him by Chris Noth and then Jeff Goldblum before he returned for a final season. I used the like that one but I rarely watch repeats, I find it pretentious now.
The “LA” spinoff with our old pal Eph, didn’t last long.
There was also “Trial By Jury” which didn’t last long. NBC oded on Dick Wolf.
The Melendez Brothers thing is called “Law and Order: True Crime” but I don’t consider it Law and Order. Nor have I been watching after the boring pilot.
The quality of SVU has dropped a lot since the original male lead left and they made Mariska Hargitay a producer. NEVER make a the lead actress into a producer.
Impypedia! :)
Thank you for the breakdown. I caught 4 minutes of an Anderson-Jeremy “Cuck Cuck Cuck” Sisto episode and said “Uh, no.”
I watched 2 episodes of which one? with Dennis Farina (love him, RIP) only because Dennis Farina was in it.
Vincent “Private Pyle” D’Nofrio: Is his character supposed to be a Tourette’s/Rainman f***tard? I know Tourette’s and that guy’s an as**ole, squared. Again, after 4-5 minutes of seeing that phlegm, I switched.
The other spinoffs? Never seen ‘em. After what I’ve seen and your reviews, never will.
Mariska Hargitay: I hear you. Yes. And unlike many of her contemporaries, she is aging well. WB. Oh yes...WB..,!!!
Farina was on the original, he replaced Jerry Orbach as “the old cop”. When he left they broke from the formula and paired the Black guy (I know his name but he’s “the black guy from Law and Order”) with a chick (nice looking but she was only there a year I think) and then Sisto, then the Black guy left and was replaced with Anderson. They shoulda got Louie Anderson instead.
They also kicked Sam Waterson up to DA in place of Fred Thompson but that worked out fine cause his replacement as “the lead prosecutor” was actually good. The final chick assistant was hot, they spun her off to “LA” but LA never found it’s footing. NYC is as much a star of the show as any of the actors, it was strange to have it set in LA, I don’t think I watched it all the way through.
Trial by Jury wasn’t terrible but eh, too much courtroom.
There was also something called “Conviction” (no “law and order” tag but set in NY, same universe) with a bunch of junior prosecutors and their personal lives, I don’t think anyone asked for or liked that one.
Vinny D, yes he was supposed to be an intense genius weirdo with insights into criminals, so only he could solve these tough cases. But then he fainted when Bush won reelection and they had to bring in Noth, who solved the same cases without the shtick. And then Goldblum he uh......Goldblumed, he’s really only ever played one character, this, the Fly, Jurassic Park, Independence Day, the Apartments.com commercials, all the same character.
Mariska’s reached the wall lately in my opinion.
