Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse issued a statement asking President Trump is he is recanting the oath he took to defend and uphold the Constitution after Trump suggesting revoking the licenses of network news organizations.
Mr. President: Words spoken by the President of the United States matter, the Republican senator wrote in a statement. Are you tonight recanting of the oath you took on Jan. 20 to preserve, protect, and defend the 1st Amendment?
Sasses tweet came after Trump sparked backlash from both conservatives and liberals by saying he should censor certain news outlets.
Network news has become so partisan, distorted and fake that licenses must be challenged and, if appropriate, revoked. Not fair to public! Trump wrote.
With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Trump asked in another tweet.

Ben ran a good campaign, too bad it was one big lie.
The courts.
Sasse is an ass.
5.56mm
I call this traitor Ben Sasshole.
They can publish what they want.
Forcing me to pay for it is not covered by the 1st amendment.
Screw ‘em.
me too-—where is Ben during all the 2nd amendment evisceration attempts??
Be was fake and no good from day one.
Courts decide only those matters brought before them. Who would decide what matters to bring before the courts?
Please think these things through before responding.
The Free Republic is more and more sounding like a bunch of loud-mouthed drunks down at the end of the bar, solving the world’s problems.
Gutless wonder.
You didn’t know the courts decide questions regarding the Constitution?
You don’t know how that process is initiated?
These matters are very basic.
I think you’re afraid of the press being questioned.
Trump has overwhelming support when he crosses lines that others were too afraid to cross.
The license of NBC and other should be questioned, again and again.
If you’re not aware of these very basic Constitutional concepts, you shouldn’t comment on them.
But first and foremost, you shouldn’t post passive aggressive comments hoping to make FreeRepublic look bad.
Someone help me out here—Did Mr. Sasse similarly question Obama?
Like the second, any licensing requirement for exercising the rights recognized by the first amendment is unconstitutional!
The really sad part, as I recall, was Sasse was the tea party candidate against the establishment candidate in the Republican primary.
but it is ok for the IRS to target Tea Party individual for tax audits and liens.
And there is a three-step cure for that problem.
First, TERM LIMITS. Get 'em out before they become entrenched.
Next, all political donations to be ANONYMOUS. Can't sell influence if you don't know who is buying.
Finally, ALL laws that apply to any American also apply to any officeholder. No more riches from insider trading that would put you or me in prison.
Take the money and lifelong protection out of the mix and we'll get public SERVANTS, not wannabe MASTERS.
>
Gosh where was Ben Sissy when Obama walked all over the Constitution?
>
Where was Ben when *Ben* walked all over the Constitution?
How fast would the exit-stage-right be if asked about A1S8, “Shall NOT be infringed” or the plethora of other ‘extra’ Constitutional works by govt?
Exactly, kinda nice that they are self-identifying as an enemy combatant.
