The Human Stain: Why the Harvey Weinstein Story Is Much Worse Than You Think (NYC/Hollywierd swamp)
The Weekly Standard ^ | Oct 11, 2017 ast | Lee Smith

Hollywood is full of Weinsteins, men whose erotic imaginations are fueled primarily by humiliation, who glut their sensibilities with the most exquisite refinements of shame. A journalist once told me about visiting another very famous Hollywood producer—you’d know the name—who exhibited for my friend his collection of photographs of famous female actresses—you’d know their names, too—performing sexual acts for his private viewing.

As with Weinstein, this man’s chief thrill was humiliation, and the more famous the target the more roundly it was savored: Even her, a big star—these people will do anything to land a role; they’re so awful, they’ll even do it for me!

One of the refrains you hear today is that they’d known about Weinstein’s transgressions for a long time. The problem, they say, was that no one was able to nail down the story.

Nonsense. Everyone had it, not just Waxman. Sure, reporters hadn’t been able to get any stars to go on the record. But that means the story journalists were pursuing wasn’t really about Weinstein’s sexual depredations. It means that what they wanted was a story about actresses, junior executives, or assistants who had been humiliated, possibly raped, and chose to remain quiet in exchange for money and/or a shot at fame.

Of course no one was going to get that on the record—very few journalists would even want to publish a story like that. But journalists always had the actual story of how a Hollywood producer humiliated and sexually assaulted women.

The real issue, as Traister notes, was that “there were so many journalists on his payroll, working as consultants on movie projects, or as screenwriters, or for his magazine.”

Or, to put it another way: More than 20 people in one magazine office alone all had the story about Harvey Weinstein’s “mistreatment” of women.

“So what did Malia Obama have to do to get her “internship” at Weinstein’s company, and why are her “parents” not outraged?”

I’m guessing Shiitestain put his hands on her and that is why this story broke after all this time.

“Do you think that glossy magazine editor who threw the swankiest Oscar party in Hollywood was trying to “nail down” the Weinstein story?”

Yet Graydon Carter (editor of said glossy magazine, Vanity Fair) loathes Donald Trump and never misses an opportunity to mock him for his vulgarity, crassness and personal shortcomings. Weinstein and Bubba Clinton are A-OK in Graydon’s book, however.

Hate to say it but jerks like Harvey Weinstein are the rule rather that the exception in Hollywood. I knocked around La-La Land on and off for a decade or so, never making the A-list grade level to be effected by high schmucks of Harvey's ilk, but the folks in the industry know what is what and they talk about it amongst themselves mostly in knowing whispers with a sly wink and a nod--

They make inside jokes about it and in some perverse way they accept it as just another part of the legend of Hollywood to be endured as part of paying their dues to be in Tinseltown and loved by their peers.

Hollywood of the 1930s to the 1960s was no stranger to such going-ons as it was mostly shut up, bought off or covered over to protect the so-called integrity of the film industry, but in fact, it was to protect the profits. However, the decline of the Majors' power and the Studio System disappearing brought an end to the near total silence of the ugly side of those in authority to give the green light to a film or, as they say, end it by putting it in 'Turn Around."

Even at my lower level, I was propositioned by both male and females in positions to get my writing or acting nearer to being bought or me cast in a part. However, I drew the line at guys-- I like females, period!

Yet I cannot say in total truth I did not say yes to a few of the fairer sex in authority that I found attractive or advantageous to my 'Show Biz' career.

Hey, I was young and male in the 1970s and 80s, so no apologies for me being me.

Now, the point to my post is that when certain folks have a position of power, many misuse it and if there are slimy places in their character, that will always come through. In my experience of 70 years, the most of these are of the Liberal Persuasion because what most of what we Conservatives think of as 'vice' or immoral is considered just fine or a way of life to those Left Wingers.

Yet do not think our side is so clean. This left hand side of humanity also affects Conservative Republicans, Libertarians and Independants just as well but the percentage is much lower that the 90% plus on the left side.

Now, buy me another round... or ten and I'll dish the real dirt!

I haven’t seen any rumors in that direction. But there’s plenty of other Hollywood bigwigs who are. Start digging into the stories around Corey Haim’s death and you will find a wealth of information on what goes on in Hollywood.

Those who submitted to Weinstein’s advances did so to advance their careers. I have no respect for them.

But not Meryl Streep. She had no idea until the NYT ran their piece on Weinstein.

Re: "Fatty" Weinstein?

"Fatty" Arbuckle was from the early 1920s when he was the defendant in three widely publicized trials for the rape and manslaughter of actress Virginia Rappe.

Way before my time or even my frame of reference--

I'm old but not that damn old!

I wonder how many actors who haven’t made the A-list are the ones who refuse to do the casting couch.

Weinstein and Carter quarreled -- Harvey fought with everybody -- but Weinstein's publishing firm got Carter money, so I guess all was forgiven.

"So what did Malia Obama have to do to get her “internship” at Weinstein’s company....."

Probably the same thing she did while she was there.....nothing.

Something like that is probably Harvey's "payola" to buy the Obama's influence in not pursuing a lawsuit against him.

My question is when will the Pizzagate connection be exposed? Everyone knows that Hollywood and political elites are joined at the hip.

Me too.

It’s like the joke about “my wal-mart clothing is made by children in prison in Nepal”. It’s supposed to be a funny joke about a myth, unless one day you find out it’s true.
