I guess the safe thing to do in California is to not use gender identifiers at all.
Everybody is a “they” or an “it”. Better say, the human did this, the non-gender-specified human did that.
I sat about 5 feet away from a transgender “it” with green hair at the library. It appeared that “it” was being interviewed by a woman for a job.
“It” was talking very loud (for the library) and the effeminate, disrespectful way “it” was talking and using swear words in its speech drove me slightly bananas.
But I kept my mouth shut and in 30 minutes, it left the library.
And such a cute Firetruck you are, Joe! I can just imagine you in your deep red uniform and that fire hose? Well, is quite elegant.
I'm spinning that old 33 disc of Jim Morrison and the Doors on the turnstyle right now. Come on, Firetruck, light my fire... /sarc
IT or HeShe = the proper way to address or speak of these strange folk. Allow the two of THEM to work it out between themselves. To avoid any embarrassment - turn on your heel and swiftly walk away giving the two some privacy.
I will never spend a dime in this effing state.
"The business and professional codes regulate business operation in California. These also apply to certain professionals including doctors, lawyers, real estate agents, accountants, and others. Violations of these codes can lead to financial penalties and even jail time."
