The costumes of a Texas State University sorority have angered many but left others wondering if it's worth the outrage.
Members of Texas State's Alpha Delta Pi recently wore Hispanic and Native American-themed costumes during an event that welcomed newcomers.
A tweet to the university by Joseph Nicholson showed photos of costumes and argued that "we need to do better."
Not everyone agreed.
"Idk I'm not offended by it and I'm Mexican," replied one Twitter user. "Like come on guys stop being so damn sensitive. It's a damn costume."
The debate over the costumes eventually made its way onto The University Star Texas State's student-run newspaper in an opinion piece titled "The energy you save: Why I can't be bothered by another case of Greek racism."
Matthew Flores, a spokesperson for Texas State, said the costumes are not in violation of the school's code of conduct, but noted that the incident was brought up while speaking to the campus Greek society.
According to Flores, sorority and fraternity members attended an interactive workshop that helped students "embrace diversity" and "peel back the layers of social justice."

Hey, they’re white sorority girls - they’re going to get shamed/blamed/scolded/mocked no matter what they do. Might as well go for it.
The way to put an end to this is to pass laws that Mexicans are only allowed to eat Mexican food. American Indians aren’t allowed to use wheels, ride horses, have firearms or listen to music. And black people aren’t allowed to play basketball.
And only white people are allowed to receive anesthetics when they have surgery, or use other inventions made by white people.
Let’s rigidly preserve everybody’s cultural heritage, under threat of criminal penalties for cultural appropriation.
When I see a person of color using a cell phone, I am outraged. How dare they use a device invented by white men.
Whites are starting to fight back against all of the identity nonsense.
Good job, girls!
There was some case a while back, at some college, where they had some Mexican style fiesta going on. There were complaints because they had Mexican food, but it wasn’t “authentic” or prepared by actual Mexican people.
I think that’s the whole “cultural appropriation” piece of political correctness which we hear about more and more nowadays.
This is all absurd.
These PC jackasses - of all stripes - need to get over themselves, get over their inhibitions and get a life.
Otherwise, I don’t want to see anyone wearing lederhosen this month and drinking beer, who doesn’t have a drop of German blood!
And where do they get off calling themselves “Greeks”?
I’m sure Greek people all over are offended. Never mind the toga parties.
I’m 100% in support of cultural appropriation, particularly when folks from other cultures start to appropriate my work ethic.
People like Joseph Nicholson are the reason intelligent life won’t visit this planet.
All I can say is those Indians are a lot better looking than Elizabeth Warren.
Sad. There is nothing that a normal “White” person can do, or not do, that isn’t condemned by the left. It’s not the costumes. It’s intense hatred for the normal people and the desire to condemn everything that a normal person does.
I wouldn’t mind seeing women dressed in lederhosen.
Insanity! The objectors are either mentally ill or they are just pulling a publicity stunt.
That was Dartmouth and it was a fun day to raise money for a charity-——and had been going on for a few years.
The country has gone NUTS !!!!
.
It’s also a hatred of fun. Good fun, anyway. Liberals are always pushing immoral fun, but uptight about everything else.
Yes and no.
Cultural festivals used to be about seeing what others do and appreciating it and having fun with it.
Now they are indoctrination events, wherein we must recognize how much better they are than us Americans; it’s so serious now. Brow-beating more than fun.
What about women appropriating men’s mustaches?
Depending on the woman...
Or not dressed...in lederhosen
Someone like Charlotte McKinney

I would prefer to see not wearing lederhosen.
