Washington (CNN)New Hampshire Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter announced Friday that she will retire at the end of her term, turning one of the nation's most competitive House seats into an open race.
New Hampshire's 1st District has changed hands -- from Shea-Porter to Republican Frank Guinta -- in every election since 2010. Shea-Porter has served four terms since 2007, but lost the office twice in that span. It's one of the nation's true swing districts. Both Barack Obama in 2012 and Donald Trump in 2016 won it by less than 2 percentage points

Dems are delusional
Predict she is first of many who will decide not to seek reelection
Her retirement could have serious implications for Democrats’ efforts to win the 24 seats they need to take control of the House. So far, 19 Republicans and 10 Democrats have announced they’ll retire or run for other offices in 2018. But Shea-Porter is just the third Democrat — joining Minnesota Rep. Tim Walz and Nevada Rep. Jacky Rosen — to vacate a seat where Trump beat Hillary Clinton last year.
Wonder if all those voters from Massachusetts will show up, again, to help the dem’s keep this seat.
you know that they will.
"Same day registration" was recently repealed.
“Predict she is first of many who will decide not to seek reelection”
Agreed! Now I just hope that the GOPe crap (i.e. Corker, et.al) “decide to go home and spend time with their families!”
Not just Ds, but people like Chris Murphy (PA) who has become a GOPe type has said he’s not running.
This is swamp draining.
Mean Tim Murphy, resigning 10/21 ?
I thought he just said he wasn’t running again, not resigning now. Is that the case?
Deport anyone with a hyphenated name...
Unfortunately, no it wasn’t.
The recently passed law puts more teeth in follow-up and potential prosecution for fraud but you will still be able to register and vote on the same day and the votes will still count.
Read the tea leaves. Knows she can’t win re-election
Fantastic news, it goes high on the target list (which it was already on with Che-Porter running). MN-1 is first in my estimation.
Not an open seat but there’s also NJ-5, where a rat bastard upset Scott Garrett last year.
Shea-Porter knows she cannot win again against whomever the Republicans put up against her. If her Facebook page is any indication of the love we have for her, she’s toast.
You’re not going to get far in Congress if you keep losing your seat every other cycle. This will give NH Dems an opportunity to find a stronger candidate to win with, but it should be a GOP seat (so long as Guinta doesn’t run again).
I don’t think Scott Garrett is running for a rematch in NJ. My concern is that it goes to another Roukema leftist creep.
Steve Loseagain is running for NJ-5 as in another Republican, Warren County Freeholder Jason Sarnoski.
Loseagain did respectably against Booker in the Senate special and probably carried the district, but I’m wary of him. At least he actually lives in this district, unlike when he carpetbagged into the 3rd district.
I’m available.
