Investigators said the goal was to injure and maim as many people as possible, but the suspect was arrested before obtaining any weapons
Authorities have arrested three men in connection with an alleged ISIS-inspired plot to target music concerts, landmarks and crowded subways in New York, federal prosecutors announced Friday afternoon.
Three men, Abdulrahman El Bahnasawy, a 19-year-old Canadian citizen; Talha Haroon, a 19-year-old U.S. citizen based in Pakistan; and Russell Salic, a 37-year-old Philippines citizen were all arrested on terror-related charges in the alleged plot that would have targeted New York City during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan in 2016, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Joon H. Kim.
El Bahnasawy was arrested on May 21, 2016, in New Jersey and was preparing to carry out the attacks; he has since pleaded guilty to multiple terrorism offenses. Haroon had allegeldy made plans to travel to New York to join El Bahnasawy and was arrested in Pakistan. Salic, who allegedly wired money to the U.S. to fund the attack, was arrested in his home country.
Attorney information for the three men wasn't immediately available.
Kim's office said this latest New York terror plot was more aspirational than operational, but the trio talked about setting off bombs in Times Square and the subway system. Prosecutors said that Al Bahnasawy also communicated with an undercover agent posing as an ISIS sympathizer about wanting to "shoot up concerts cuz they kill lots of people."
"We just need guns in our hands," El Bahnasawy said. "That's how the Paris guys did it."
Haroon, meanwhile, told the undercover agent that he saw the subway as a "perfect" attack for the Ramadan attack, and that they should shoot as many train riders as possible before setting off suicide vests. He even talked about getting supplies to make explosives for the attack.
"When we runout of bullets we let the vests go off," he said on May 5, 2016.
Then, three days later Haroon added, "NY Needs to fall. It's a must."
News that a major New York area venue hosting a concert could have been in the ISIS crosshairs comes days after a lone actor with no link to any terror group opened fire on a crowd at a country music festival in Las Vegas. Stephen Paddock killed 58 people before taking his own life in his hotel room.
...and in a later story I read that it was Paddock’s vehicle, but the person named driving it was his girlfriend who was already out of the country...so it must have been a female using her name. Can’t find that at this moment.
Here’s another site with a thread about this, just one basic thread rather than many, like on FR. Just on the off chance you might want to check them out for details that you can’t find but remember. Pretty much a lot of the same stuff as here.
I remember a lot of details but not specifically, more of a “oh yes, I remember that”, so I’m no help.
If your analysis is correct, then ISIS would be accurate in saying it was their action, but just not quite accurate in the details of who did it.
Interesting that they would purposely obfuscate on the actor/actors.
I should have added - there are many, many pages on that thread and the beginning pages don’t have much concrete info necessarily.
If anything can be called “info” or “concrete” about the news coverage [sic] of this attack.
More fun for them to laugh at the FBI and watch them run around like chooks with their heads cut off, trying to cover up what really happened.
This wouldn’t be the first time Paddock was instrumental in putting a spoke in their terrorism plans.
The moment that prosecutor made it public that one of the perps had been communicating with an undercover agent, they would have made it a top priority to identify and neutralize him.
That agent was probably Paddock.
All I am looking for now is the story that some woman drove Paddocks vehicle into the Mandalay Bay parking garage and the receipt she was issued was in the name of his Filipino girlfriend who was not in the country at the time.
Would be most interesting to know what she was delivering to the Mandalay Bay Casino...I’ll keep looking.

“...investigators in the Las Vegas concert shooting recovered at least 1,000 rounds of ammunition inside a suitcase and Tennerite in a duffle bag inside a car owned by Paddock. The vehicle was located in a parking garage near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino...”
Discovered in a vehicle found to have been driven by a woman who used the name of his girlfriend who was in the Philippines at the time.
I’m still looking for the parking receipt posted elsewhere.

Thanks for all the pings and comments. Very, very odd puzzle and very obviously there is a “there” there which is being hidden from view.
Las Vegas Security Guard Shot by Vegas Killer is Not Registered as a Security Guard in Nevada?

Agreed Fred. A cover up in progress.
Why did they remove Paddock’s A/C from the federal registration data base?
He’s going to end up being the ghost who committed an atrocity, when it’s likely he was the 59th victim.
I see no need for any sympathy other than the victims. Sympathy for Paddock isn’t warranted until he’s identified as a victim.
Which I suspect he was. But agents in his line of work accept the risks, don’t they?
I would like to know what happened though. If I'm right and this was Saudi driven we will not know until the end of the relationship we have with the Saudis.

I'm seeing Paddock as an undercover agent posing as an ISIS sympathizer about wanting to 'shoot up concerts cuz they kill lots of people...'
This time, the would-be perpetrators simply turned the tables on the agent whose job it was to have them incriminate themselves.
I can see that. Wouldn’t he have some kind of backup or listening devices going?
I'm quite sure he did. But the cameras are gone and his backup in the corridor maintains he was shot in the leg.
imo
