The Las Vegas shooter spent his last minutes desperately firing through the doorway of his hotel room while the SWAT team stormed into the suite.
Stephen Paddock shot one security guard and fired on a SWAT team of six who searched the hotel floor-by-floor Sunday night before zeroing in on their target.
We believe the individual killed himself prior to our entry, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said.

My guess is that it could not have actually taken too long for his location to be known. It is likely that the hotel knew pretty quickly which room he was shooting from. Also, someone familiar with the hotel, or someone with binoculars could have described which side he was firing from, and how many floors up from the street he was. I think that the long passage of time would be for the SWAT team to assemble, suit up and gear up, form a plan, and approach the room. All that being said, I am still wondering why the shooter wasn’t engaged sooner, if nothing else than to take people out of the line of fire. It seems that a rifleman with a scope could have pinned him down.
This is from the radio traffic through Las Vegas Dispatch. I will get you the link; its in another thread.
This is a rough transcription and only has significant events. Throughout the broadcasts there is mass confusion, panic, officers hit and being transported, incorrect locations, countermanded orders, reports of 419s (Dead bodies), open microphones, officers pinned down, citizens acting unilaterally and often counter to what is needed.
This is a combat zone with all its attendant chaos.
Dispatch was notified of shots fired at 10:08 pm.
Dispatch was notified that shooting was coming from Mandalay Bay at 10:09, from halfway up. Presumably muzzle flashes were seen.
At 10:11 the Command Post that is set up in advance of these events confirmed that shots were fired from Mandalay Bay and multiple casualties.
At 10:12 A patrol Sgt. or Lt, calls for a five man strike to rally on him at Mandalay Bay and the Boulevard.
4 minutes gone by, rounds still outgoing.
Officers on the ground are still not entirely sure that there is one shooter or exactly the position and orientation of the shooter(s). Reports of shots coming from Gate 7.
At 11:12 a rifle has been deployed in front of Mandalay Bay, and calls go out to provide spotter info so the rifle armed officer can engage. Response is confusion on whether Mandalay or Luxor.
At 11:13 an officer reports that the shots are coming from the 50th or 60th floor.
Another officer contradicts this by saying it is in the West Tower in the Center of the building.
At 10:14, an officer is reported shot.
At 10:14 another officer reports that he is on the 31st floor and can hear the automatic fire, one floor above us.
6 minutes have elapsed since the first reports of shots fired.
At 10:17, officers are still reporting that the shooter is in about the 15th floor.
At 10:19 Drunk civilians are reported to be running toward the gunfire. Also at this time another patrol supervisor has rallied a team of four and is moving to make contact with the suspect. Requests for the elevators to be shut down to limit the suspects movement have been made.
Also at this time there are two officers outside the shooters door, waiting for more officers to arrive.
At 10:21 officers are still receiving fire from suspect.
At 10:23 an officer reports that there may have been three shooters.
at 10:24 room 135 is identified as shooters room.
At 10:26 report of the security officer being hit comes in.
At 10:27, team holding the door of 135 advise that another team is in route and that there is a second shooter on the 29th floor.

At 10:51, an officer reports a possible (suspect) at Reno and Tropicana.
At 10:58 officers report that the hallway where the shooters room is located is contained.
This broadcast ends at 11:06 without any further radio traffic.
After reviewing this, I believe that entry was not made for at least 72 minutes.
I was not there and cannot account for the tactical decisions. Officers had the room pegged 16 minutes from first report of shots fired. At some point they received fire from the room. That at least changed the focus of the shooter. Undoubtedly the officers were outgunned, overwhelmingly, with far less ammunition than the suspect.
If you listen to the scanner tapes, he stopped shooting at the crowd around the time he shot the security guard. So he knew his position was known. He switched from shooting outside to defending the door entry. The police backed off and waited for swat because he had stopped shooting outward. And of course cause he had full auto.
thanks, but that doesn’t answer my question.
Don’t leave me hanging, tell me! LOL
Thank you. That helps clarify some things for me.
The demonrats took it very hard when the children they had killed at Sandy hook didn’t result in gun confiscation in the US. This time they tried murdering white country music fans to see if that will work.
Maybe OJ can find the real sniper.
And a shout-out to the brave Security Guard. There was a local attack years ago where a CCW carrier confronted the bad guy shooting up the mall. The good guy got shot (and paralyzed), but the bad guy fled into a store and closet - thus ending his shooting spree. (Later found in the store and arrested.) One man CAN make a difference.
“I thought the room was located by the smoke detector going off, rather than a floor-by-floor search.”
And I thought they knew because the guests in the adjoining room called to report gunfire?
That many rounds, you bet your ass there’s smoke, and a red glowing barrel.
Lots of HD video in Casinos. I want to see it....
I don’t about “crazy rumors” being spread. Hope you are not against people asking questions...whether you think they are crazy or legit.
think it is perfectly OK and in fact a very good thing to question, to check the presented facts.
You would think after what we went through with Trukmp’s election media coverage, and seeing doctoring of facts by NBC and CNN to name two, people would be fact-checking every piece of news put forth.
They won’t release any more information than they have to because they don’t want to have a bunch of lunatic copycats trying the same type of thing.
The hotel knew the room before the police. Thus, security guard shot before police got to 32nd floor. That is one area that can be improved. Someone from the hotel needed to get that info to police scanner traffic.
Silenced pistol of same caliber of police kills guy.
Ceiling vent already for him to go up into, panel pulled back up behind him.
Guy is wearing swat type or LVPD uniform clothing to climb out somewhere inconspicuous, and leave through the crowds.
Not impossible for someone well trained, but what are the motives?
He had been in the hotel for 3 days. How big a team of accomplices would it take to plant stuff in his properties while he was gone?
Why does the Porridge bird lay his eggs in the air?
Noooooooo ....
If there was enough shooting to kill or wound that many by automatic fire, how could it possibly have been hard to pinpoint his location?
The doctor is unhappy....
These terrorist where living at this hotel for a while. Meaning they could have cut a hole into another room for their escape. It wouldn't be an obvious hole. It would take time to find.
Hotel cameras should pick up who they where.
That is different than some other stories going around.
The FBI searched a house here in Reno last evening and has now left there with no comment.
