Tom Petty died Monday morning after life support was terminated, reports TMZ. The singer was found unconscious Sunday night after a massive cardiac arrest. Paramedics were able to restore a pulse, says TMZ, but his family accepted the inevitability of the singers death, and support was terminated this morning.

The Rock and Roller was known for his rhythmic Florida style. He was famous as early at 19. He transplanted himself to Southern California, where he was known for songs that celebrated Southern California living, such as "Free Falling."

p.s. How does Keith Richards outlast so many other rockers???? really now.....

He's inadvertently pickled his carcass with some heretofore unknown combination of drugs and alcohol. Like cockroaches and student loans, Keith Richards will survive a nuclear holocaust.

I was talking with a friend of mine
Said a woman had hurt his pride
Told him that she loved him so
And turned around and let him go
Then he said, you better watch your step
Or your gonna get hurt yourself
Someone’s gonna tell you lies
Cut you down to size

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
What if I love you baby?
Don’t do me like that

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
Someday I might need you baby
Don’t do me like that

Listen honey, can you see?
Baby, you would bury me
If you were in the public eye
Givin’ someone else a try
And you know you better watch your step
Or you’re gonna get hurt yourself
Someone’s gonna tell you lies
Cut you down to size

Don ‘t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
What if I love you baby?
Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
What if I need you baby?
Don’t do me like that

‘Cause somewhere deep down inside
Someone is saying, Love doesn’t last that long
I got this feelin’ inside night and day
And now I can’t take it no more

Listen honey, can you see?
Baby, you would bury me
If you were in the public eye
Givin’ someone else a try
And you know you better watch your step
Or you’re gonna get hurt yourself
Someone’s gonna tell you lies
Cut you down to size

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
What if I love you baby?
Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t

Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
I just might need you honey
Don’t do me like that

Wait
Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
Baby, baby, baby
Don’t, don’t, don’t

No
Don’t do me like that
Don’t do me like that
Baby, baby, baby

Oh, oh, oh

"...who thought we’d still have Keith Richards at 73?"

It's not like he didn't try.

I always liked TP but never went to a concert. Recently watched the Netflix documentary “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Runnin’ Down a Dream”. Long but very good.

Coincidentally I watched again the George Harrison documentary Living in the Material World which came out in 2011 (Harrison fied in late 2001). Petty is interviewed in the last part of the film due to his collaboration with the Travelling Wilburys and his continued friendship with George.

There is one scene in which TP recalls getting a phone call from George right after Roy Orbison died. And TP said that the first thing that Harrison said to him was “Aren’t you glad that it wasn’t you?” And TP replied, “Yeah, I am.”

Thanks for the memories Tom...RIP.

“I mean, who thought we’d still have Keith Richards at 73?”

When I think of Richards, I also think of Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead. He died in 2015. Part of his Wikipedia citation goes like this:

“Aside from his musical activities, Lemmy was well known for his hard-living lifestyle, chain smoking, and regular consumption of alcohol (notably Jack Daniel’s Tennessee whiskey) and amphetamines.”

There are guys like Kilmister and Richards who, oddly enough, seemed to thrive in spite of the abuse they’ve done to themselves.

Tom Petty died on the wrong day, just like Farah Fawcette.

Nobody will remember...

He learned guitar from Don Felder, a fellow Gainesville resident, who would later join the Eagles

I’m huge fan, just saw his show a month ago. They delayed it a week because he was sick. He just got done touring for six months. Sad day.
