The amount of rounds does not matter in the discussion. It was fully automatic, whether original or modified is the only question of a salient post event investigation. My ear says they were 308 or 7.62 rounds, most likely 7.62.
All the weapons in his room..plus the planning, cameras to tell where the police were....tells me this guy intended a stand off with the police...otherwise why so many weapons?
The cyclic rate sounded more like an AK than an AR.
M16's, if I'm not mistaken, fire .223 at about 900 rounds/min. That's what it sounded like, as far as firing rate.
So, judging by the rate of fire, I'm guessing it was something more akin to M16. It did not sound like (50%) lower rate AK47 fire to me.
I'm no expert, but I can tell the difference between 600 and 900 rounds per minute, and this was closer to 900...
I would tend to agree, 7.62, .30 caliber. This being said by someone on both ends of one for 1000s of rounds... Also would explain the number of casualties. What’s cover for a 5.56 is merely concealment for a 7.62.
