California has spent tens of billions of extra dollars on its K-12 school system in recent years on promises that its abysmal levels of academic achievement especially those of disadvantaged children would be improved.
And what have those massive expenditures a 50 percent increase in per-pupil spending and a massive reworking of school curricula accomplished?
Fewer than half of Californias children are meeting English standards and fewer than 38 percent are making the grade in math.
Not much, the latest results from annual testing indicate.

The scores on mathematics were even worse, just 37.6 percent overall, 19 percent for blacks and 25.2 percent for Latinos.
So native born black children can not read or write in English. Too much rap music?
The liberalization of America. I have another phrase I will not use on this forum.
1) Made the Teachers' Union insufferably powerful
and
2) Created two successive generations of ignorant youth, ripe for manipulation and submission.
Well, I am sensing the solution for the state will be to (a) lower standards for some races, and (b) raise taxes further.
You have good sense.
Today’s Public High School Graduates
Can’t read, Can’t write, Can’t count, dumber than dirt but some of the proudest moron’s you will ever meet.
No, well, yes, but really too little Weird Al Yankovic's "Word Crimes".
Glad my daughter is long done with California schools. She learned more from her parents and extended family than she did from school
Who needs education? California can just pass a “guaranteed annual income” law so the government gives everyone enough to live off of without working. Problem solved.
Probably the section in cursive is the cause.
:)
Solution: Just lower the standards and make the tests easier.

c) increase busing and d) penalize overachievers
A generation of kneelers.
We were fortunate our daughter grew up in one of the better public school districts in California. She learned a lot of both her parents and the schools.
Finished her BA in the state's UC system in three years. She's been working for the past 2 and 1/2 years, moving to Texas a little over a year ago. The latter would be an indication she's no dummy! :)
“Cant read, Cant write, Cant count,” Don’t know where they came from or Who they are.
They could just have pdfs of diplomas that could be printed out from the various high schools, and pocket the rest of the budget.
Save time and money and just give them a diploma the first day they show up.
Remove immigrants and blacks from the equation and see what the scores are.
Well at least they’re not praying. /s
That's just it. Most school districts in California teach to the lowest achievers in the classes. Just removing the scores doesn't tell the entire story. There is an impact to everyone else attending those classes. (Note: the K-12 school district our daughter attended taught to the higher achievers, something not that common in the state)
Remember Mexico is only sending us their best and brightness. NOT!
