US Missile-tracking Ship Leaves Japanese Port

Japan's public broadcaster NHK has reported that the U.S. Navy missile-tracking ship USNS Howard O. Lorenzen left Sasebo Port in Nagasaki Prefecture on Thursday.
The report, however, didn't say where the ship was headed.
The Lorenzen is a 12-thousand-642-ton missile range instrumentation ship equipped with large radar capacity to track missiles and rockets. The ship had been anchored at the Japanese port from Monday.
In July, North Korea fired a missile three days after the ship left Sasebo Port. In February last year, the North fired a missile two days after the ship departed from the port.
An official of a Japanese civic group says North Korea will not always fire a missile whenever the ship leaves the port, but added that the Lorenzo may have obtained some information before leaving Sasebo.
P!
Hope she has an armed escort and top cover. No more Pueblo’s.
Sounds like all we have to do to stop the NK missile launches is keep that ship in port!
Is it me, or does that ship need a coat of paint?
I was thinking the same thing.
And is that floating assembly on the water around it some sort of oil containment device?
Do they have to float a boom when parked ?
Certainly. I am sure that is not an anti-intrusion/swimmer net or anything that might prevent underwater access to the vessels hull, nah. Just an oil containment system.
Looks that way to me as well.
Is that something from Obama’s navy? It looks more like something from another country.
It is designed to keep hostile scuba divers from planting limpet mines to the hull.
Can you heat a cuppa joe using a cup holder on a long pole while standing on the fantail?
ping
They want to look nondescript.
I bet we’re looking at 1 billion dollars worth of warship right there.
In my opinion, North Korea should be allowed to carry out a demonstration, if that’s what North Korea wants to do. That is, at least allow a missile to go a little farther than points where such a demonstration might occur before taking it down.
More could be learned about what the North has, and the North would be allowed to define itself even more as an international villain.
She is a USNS ship, not held to the same standards as Commissioned Ships that have young sailors to paint the rust, she is run by civilians!!!
