I talked with a knowledgeable back-country capt. who told me of a huge fish kill immediately after Irma took all the water out of Fla. Bay.
By the way looks like there will be far fewer capts. back there anyway since the feds are now charging a grand for a license instead of $250.The Park Service needs to be swamp gutted it loaded with far lefties.
Makes sense if you remove all the water out of a fish tnak the fish die.
It happened,be interesting to see how long it takes for the bay to be repopulated and to see if it still has the algae problems of before.

Somewhat harder to do down here. We do have roads that normally flood during storms. So far water floods stays a few days than goes away. Will it always be like that I don’t know.
As you say it is expensive but it’s better than being dead.
High impact windows are very popular down here but once again they are pricey.

Nice breakdown Rod. Didn’t like higher prices when we built our Fla home and all the codes, including ties roofrafters needing to be secured to structure , minimal wind load impacts on windows, etc, but as you state minus a direct hit by true sustained wind speeds of a 4 or 5 can make it through the experience

The toothless guy is complaining about a law that the governor passed three weeks ago.
The reporter CONFIRMS that the truck drivers are refusing to work in order to get revenge on the governor.
The toothless guy says that the governor’s policies have impacted truckers, so now truckers will show the country THEIR OWN suffering.
The reporters says, “But all this stuff is in the past. In the present, it’s an emergency.”
The toothless guy says that the country can now experience what the truckers experienced due to the governor’s policies.
The toothless guy says the truckers are not responsible for helping the country. That’s the governor’s job.
Three weeks earlier, nobody cared about the plight of the truckers, so now the truckers don’t care about the country.
This is all the governor’s fault, the toothless guy says. He passed a law, and now he has to live with it.
The governor didn’t understand the suffering of the working man, so now the truckers will show the country what suffering is.
Since the country doesn’t care about truckers, the truckers won’t help.

You dig two big ditches, put the excavated dirt between them and build a road on top of it.
We do have roads that normally flood during storms.
That's because they're at ground level. People try to drive through the flood water and get killed.
So far water floods stays a few days than goes away.
Meanwhile....you're stranded.
We have our share of lousy roads up here but flooding is seldom a problem. Our issue is ice. Cracks form in the pavement, and they stupidly salt the roads. The water then runs through the cracks and freezes again, which expands. This heaves up and destroys the pavement.
In this case it's a lack of proper drainage in the roadbed composition. It should be lots of fractured rock.
Than again being as far from the eye as you can get in upper Key Largo at Ocean Reef didn't help either. The Marinemax store there was hit so hard they will be operating out of trailer for a year or so. That means the Keys had damage over a 120 mile area.From one end to the other.
Gives a good idea as to why PR and its government are in perpetual financial distress.

The PR people need to be commandeering the trucks, and if the “toothless truckers” pitch a fit and get violent, they need to be shot.
