A female Georgia police officer was shot and killed Friday and a second officer was injured, prompting an intense manhunt that led to the arrest of two suspects.
Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd indentified the murdered officer as Det. Kristen Hearne, 29. The injured officer was identified as David Goodrich.
Investigators said Ofc. Goodrich was called out to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle Friday morning. He called Hearne for backup after a plate check revealed the vehicle, a Ford Escape, had been stolen out of Tennessee.
As the officers approached the car, a man and a woman walked out of some nearby woods. As the officers began speaking to them, the man opened fire with a handgun.
"It was more or less an ambush," Dodd told reporters. "[The suspect] drew the gun before they knew what happened."

100% correct. That could be a lot of death penalties, and I’d be okay with that.
Not street cops, no I don’t.
“All states should have the death penalty for anyone who intentionally kills a member of law enforcement.”
Or anyone. Why make killing a cop special?
I can think of some instances where people attempt to do things and are not successful, that I would throw the same penalty as if they had been successful.
I am not in favor of militarizing the police. I am in favor of arming them to face a growing militant populace though.
Leaving them with a revolver when the people they face have glocks and semi-auto rifles, isn’t workable.
What other kind are there?
Yes, we agree on that.
I have been pretty vocal with my objections to some of the military equipment every little berg was supplied with about seven years ago. It may have happened under Bush, so if it has been more than seven years.
I agree!
The door was opened after 9/11. Government blurred the lines on limits on civilian police. The Patriot Act was turned into a tool of nuttiness under Obama.
We need POLs who can still see what is important. Bureaucraps seldom give up power without a fight. They all think they know better than the public how life should be lived. Headshake.
Desk jobs in the police dept to free up the guys for street duty.
Why not just hire secretaries and clerks? Why make them police officers?
Good point.
