Varadkar wants 16 year olds to vote? I thought it was only far left kooks pushing for that idiocy.

Ireland has 2 squishy-centrist parties. It needs a conservative party. The closest thing they have, Renua Ireland, got 2% of the vote.

And Varadkar’s not far enough left? He’s a homosexual politician who gave strong support to the “marriage equality” referendum.

I’m wary of Renua’s current “local democracy” push, which is not really decentralization but a way to spread big government’s tentacles around the country. They don’t seem to want to reduce the number of “public services” either by putting them back in the private sector, especially when it comes to medical care, transportation (especially railroads), et al (they intend to finish a superfluous limited-access highway from Cork to Letterkenny, through one of the least-populated areas of the west of the country). They may have resolved to adopt a strict anti-abortion position in March of this year, but other social aspects of their manifesto involve pumping €1 billion into socialistic child-care programs (e.g. “community creches”), which attack the family in different ways.
