Shocker: Another Poll Shows Americans Aren't Big Fans of Anthem Protests
Townhall ^ | 09/26/2017 | Guy Benson

One of the most striking elements of the NFL anthem protest controversy is the glaring disconnect between average Americans -- especially sports fans -- and the media covering the story. Airwaves and column inches are disproportionately crowded with pro-protest (and anti-Trump) perspectives, whereas most non-elite observers come down on the other side of the issue. It's reminiscent of the 2016 election dynamic, in which the overwhelming majority of the media was horrified by Donald Trump and convinced he had virtually no chance of winning. They were unable or unwilling to understand the range of sentiments and motivations that inspired tens of millions of voters to cast ballots for him, so they found themselves morose and scrambling after he won.

Today, we're watching something of a rerun, except the canyon between the press and the people is even wider here. Setting aside the stipulations that of course peaceful protests are protected speech, that Trump erred in calling for firings, and that issues like police brutality are worthy of serious attention, most Americans do not support using the national anthem as an occasion for protest. We've been following the public opinion polls on these questions over the last few days, and the patterns are clear: Solid majorities oppose anthem kneeling (more than seven-in-ten call it "unpatriotic," according to a CBS survey), and sizable minorities are consuming less of the NFL's product as a result of the brouhaha. Here are some new numbers, via a polling firm called Remington Research Group, who conducted a scientific national poll of more than 1,600 Americans:

Not one of them can articulate what it is they are protesting the American Flag and our National Anthem for. If they try, they will struggle mightily.

"Because Trump."

Great question. I would say that the answer is that more and more of those who work in the media IS gay, lives in NYC, etc. (what you said).

The profiles and demographics of media “reporters” cannot possibly resemble those of the “average American”.

We have a Consensus, the Science is Settled, it is BAD to protest the Flag and the Anthem.

Well it is a big thing to change a lifestyle. I have chosen, after being a follower since about 1964, to no longer have anything to do with the No Flag Love League.

I have been a Miami Dolphin fan since they started in 1966. I have hosted super bowl parties in my home ... but no more.

Some things which have brought this to a head:
1. I totally disagree with cities and counties using tax money to pay for billionaire’s arenas.
2, I disagree with teams that paid for stadiums having their team yanked away from them on an owner’s whim. (Houston Oilers, Baltimore Colts, LA Rams, St Louis Rams, St. Louis Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, LA Raiders, SD Chargers and so on.)
3. Replay has become ridiculous ... the umps and refs can no longer be relied on for a call ... we need to review and re-review, ad nauseum.
4. We go to commercial. Then there is a kick-off. THEN, ANOTHER COMMERCIAL! Enough said.
5. Pink shoes and armbands.
6. Players who are thugs to women and others ... and are treated like they’re victims.
7. And now ... the final straw. Not honoring the flag, pledge or anthem, for some reason that they can’t even articulate (at least, beyond “because of Trump”)

So, enough is enough! And to whatever degree possible, I will avoid doing business with the major sponsors.

I doubt that I will have any real effect on a multi-billion dollar business, but I feel better having taken this stand.

>>Everything liberalism touches, dies. We’re witnessing the death of the NFL and the media....all caused by the insanity of liberalism.<<

Your post perfectly describes what is happening in America because of the mental disorder that has afflicted the Democrat Party stooges and their lackeys throughout the entire American culture. SICK, SICK PEOPLE!

The cover story of the New Yorker this week is headlined Did Trump Lose the Country When He Attacked the NFL?, which just goes to show, again, that they know nothing about us at all.
