Puerto Rico should try a different economic system or petition to be returned to the Hispanics of Spain.

...It’s old electrical grid, which was in terrible shape, was devastated. Much of the Island was destroyed, with billions of dollars....

...owed to Wall Street and the banks which, sadly, must be dealt with. Food, water and medical are top priorities - and doing well. #FEMA

No real change. they were broke before the hurricane too. They defaulted on all their debt.

They wanted a USA bailout earlier this year.

Tx and Fl contribute mightily to the economy

PR is just a bunch of takers. Don’t use my $$$ for them

I’m almost as tired of the sanity as I am of the winning. Not. it’s like drinking unpolluted water ... refreshing simply because it is clear and has no taste ... when it reflects ... it just reflects what is. The old man is making me wax poetic and get all zenny.

They will, but thank goodness The Donald is in charge and not Crooked Hillary!

Trump could get major support by trying to help - in a visible way. The National Guard is already there, handing out supplies and helping people. But Trump needs to get on top of this. Probably half of his employees in NYC were Puerto Ricans, although completely mainlandized, if I can put it that way, but most of them have family in PR. He could completely undercut DeBlasio if he gave more visible and verbal support to Puerto Rico.

It’s a great place and I love it, but it has been under leftist (think NYC Dem) political control for so long that it is being driven into the ground. There was a brief period when they had a conservative governor who did fantastic stuff for them, but the municipal unions got rid of him. Trump could give them a better model.

As I recall a bunch of pharmaceutical companies built production facilities there and then as soon as the tax break left so did they. Still there must have been some economic benefit to that arrangement for a while? Who pissed it all away?

Don’t know about Great but I’m back to about 60%

PR has no Over the road or Rail support, it has to rely on what wasn’t destroyed until the Ships ar AC arrive.

It is going to take time

Good lord, PR could be a textbook case for Preppers. Imagine this nightmare scenario:

Power out, months until it is resorted.
Gas running out, gensets will only last a few weeks
Roads blocked
Food spoils or is running out
People run out of necessary "luxury" items, toilet paper, ice, basic Rx medicine, alcohol, etc
Rule of Law being bent towards anarchy,
Payments of debts and credits stress already fragile economy
and you are surrounded by a bunch of Puerto Ricans.

Answered some of my own questions...

From Wiki:

The pharmaceutical industry in Puerto Rico encompasses more than half of all manufacturing done in Puerto Rico. As the island’s most prominent industry, pharmaceutics generates more than 18,000 jobs, pays more than $3 billion USD in taxes, comprises about half of total exports, and has generated more than 25% of the island’s GDP for the past four decades.

So PR leaders are pi$$ing away $3B a year? On what? Probably putting their family members in worthless government jobs...

That’s what happens when you give a perfectly good tropical island to a bunch of devolved mexicans
