Perhaps there is nothing more infuriating to those that serve and defend the United States and all who love America, to those that have given their lives to its cause, than to see persons enriched by the American Dream turn and betray its sacred, yes sacred, history.
Perhaps the intention is to infuriate American Patriots, and perhaps more precisely Americans of European descent. If this is the intention, the provocation is working but not where it targets. Black American Patriots are provoked and inflamed by the cowardice and deception of those that attempt to use their history, to co-opt their long struggle to redress their grievances, to tarnish their devotion to their country, by actions that demean America.
It is said that scoundrels will sometimes wrap themselves in the flag and tell lies about their patriotism, but not so here.
In face-to-face discussions with communities and families of Black-Americans, we have witnessed their disgust with those that disrespect the symbols of American history. Although these Black Americans have issues, and as they say, there will always be issues, they remain firmly in support of the symbols of America, symbols calling for freedom are not to be degraded because they are eternal and they belong to every American.
The symbols of American freedom are the foundation on which its debates and struggles are based. When there are grievances, these symbols reflect the foundation by which the grievances are addressed. It is suicidal to attack the symbols of freedom when seeking to redress grievances. It is similar to removing a heart to solve the problem of a clot.
"We have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand
which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us,
and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts,
that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.
Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient
to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us."
-- Abraham Lincoln, 1863
This is a short note of one of the many heroic Black Americans who gave their last full measure of devotion to this experiment called America.
William H. Carney, first Black American to be awarded the Medal of Honor
Personally, I think if Sergeant Carney were alive today, he would be sorely tested to restrain himself from planting a fist of his fury on the traitorous persons that denigrate the symbols of American freedom. These persons are traitorous because they should know better. They are not poor nor uneducated nor misguided nor abandoned. They have received in abundance the fruits of American freedom. There is no excuse for their treason, not one.
Sergeant William Carney's heroism and love for America should be in the face of every American who refuses to respect America's symbols of freedom. He faced death numerous times and suffered many gunshot wounds while preventing the American flag from touching the ground. Think about how much this former slave loved the flag of America, that he would risk all for it.
Today's ungrateful beneficiaries of American freedom and prosperity should understand the trials of life that William Carney faced.
Born a slave, later freed, a hard-working student and academic, he volunteered to join the Union Army in Massachusetts because he felt God called him to fight for the oppressed.
We fully support President Trumps social messaging in defense of America's symbols of freedom. We pray he will call to action many of the William Carneys that are aive today and make them headlines of his own media.
Black patriots are ignored by the liars in media. They need to be in the public eye and rewarded with our gratitude.
Please President Trump, lift up the patriotic Black Americans that make us all proud. They are so important to our history and culture.
