RUSH: I want to share with you first the way all of this affected me, because in many ways I think that I am fairly typical. I am smack-dab in the middle of the targeted marketing the NFL does to acquire and hold an audience, right smack-dab in the middle of it. And I have to tell you, I was so sad Sunday morning when all of this started falling out.
But if youll permit me first, I was personally saddened. I did not watch the National Football League yesterday, and it was the first time in 45 years that I made an active decision not to watch, including my team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was not a decision made in anger. It was genuine sadness. I realized that I can no longer look at this game and watch this game and study this game and pretend, you know, fantasize, everything a fan does. This whole thing has removed for me the ingredients that are in the recipe that make up a fan.
You cant watch ESPN anymore and just learn about what happened during the day in football games. You cant. You are going to be deluged with other things that are irrelevant to why you care and why you want to watch. You cant open the internet in the morning newspaper, whatever. You cant. You just cant watch and absorb and learn about the NFL the way I used to be able to. You have to be willing to accept all the other things now that people are using it for and it is being used.
Ive evolved a whole bunch of theories as to what happened, what is happening, whos gonna win in this, whos gonna lose in this, who is doing the right thing, whos doing the wrong thing. Ive been running all these different scenarios. Ive got some input from some friends I want to share with you as well. Some of them have some quite fascinating takes. The upshot of it is, though, the sad realization that something I loved and, look, this is not old man get off my yard stuff.
Nor did I. NHL season begins Oct 4th.
...I made an active decision not to watch...

Ditto with our family. Anyone who watches indirectly gives money to the NFL, its downtrodden players and the reveling leftist broadcasters and rewards their vile behavior.
No
Fans any
Longer
Might have to watch Hockey...got to your local High School games
I live SW Florida and the teams down here are really good..all sports..
No one telling you what to think..
ditto
He should write a vanity on FR.
Lord knows, everyone else has.
As an American, I will fight for all people to be able to protest; anything they wish. They have that right to be wrong.
I will stand proudly at the playing of this nation’s anthem, because it is still the bastion of freedom.
What hurts me more, are those who demand that the protestors be fired, or hurt in any way, or forced to do something they do not believe in. It is tantamount to being made to bake a cake.
I hope my fellow Americans see the forest through all the trees.
I didn’t watch even a second.
I agree.
The fun is gone.
The necessity that we fight the hate directed at our nation is paramount.
As a military chaplain and afterwards as a local minister, I never performed a funeral for a veteran or an active duty member where the coffin was not draped with the American flag. That same flag was then ceremonially folded, saluted, and then placed in the hands of grieving family.
What these protesters do is a great travesty.
I watched Professional Bull riding. My first Sunday in over 40 years not watching ANY NFL.
Rush is absolutely right (what else is new), there isn’t any way that Trump doesn’t win this. Trump is on the side of patriotism, the country, the flag, the national anthem. The NFL has cast its lot with a bunch of America-haters.
Gee Rush you mean when you were stabbed in the back by Goodell and Irsay when you were promised they backed your minority interest in the Rams wasn’t enough to emasculate you?
Not to worry RUSH, there’s still Golf!
There's a big difference between NFL fans demanding that these whiny SJWs stand for the anthem or be fired, and the government demanding that a private business bake a cake, or face jail time. It's difficult to believe you can't see that. Do I really have to explain the difference?
After two (maybe three?) years NFL-free, I'm here to assure any of you for whom this boycott will mean a cold-turkey experience, that it's not nearly as difficult a habit to kick as you may be thinking/fearing !

I have similar sentiments as Rush. Too many have died for our died country to watch the NFL.
I never watch ESPN. I could care less about professional sports of any kind. But I am about ready to cut the cord just to deprive ESPN, CNN, and the other basic cable recipients of one more very tiny amount of revenue. If everyone did this, they would go out of business, and the cable industry along with it.
NFL will be sorry they are doing this. Loss of money will hurt them. NFL wants to be a global league playing in London etc.
They will die off. Bu bye!
Movies, video games, books, throwing the tennis ball for the dog, weedeating around the yard, hiking, bicycling.
Why would I waste time watching these guys?
Ain’t that the truth.
