The Minneapolis public school system is experiencing a massive student exodus and guess where theyre going.
"About 70 percent of the kids leaving the district are headed to charter schools," Beena Raghavendran and Mary Jo Webster report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "Many of these independent public schools have established themselves in north Minneapolis, catering to black parents concerned about academic achievement, discipline and safety in the district schools."
"Harvest Network has three schools and plans to grow. It aims to educate 3,800 of the kids on the North Side by 2025. That would cut MPS North Side enrollment by 40 percent.
"In south Minneapolis, Hiawatha Academies, a network of schools that attracts most of the Minneapolis defectors about 1,200, who are mostly Latino is planning to break ground on a new high school this fall.
"On average, math scores for black students are 10 percentage points higher in the schools that Minneapolis black students are leaving for, than for black students staying in the district.
"But test scores vary wildly. About a dozen of the 70 charter schools and school districts competing with Minneapolis have math proficiency rates for black students that are well above 50 percent, while about 20 are at or below the Minneapolis proficiency rate of 18 percent."

Why to they keep voting for the crooks that give them this cr@p?
But, but, but, haven’t these parents seen the great commercials from the union’s Education Minnesota?
Because a lot of them were educated in the very schools they are fleeing. They are simply conditioned to vote for Dems.
Yet at the University of Minnesota’s school of education, anyone who believes that a student in a “underprivileged neighborhood” can achieve something worthwhile in school and advance will not get a degree from U of M. Furthering the Leftist dogma of keeping blacks on the plantation.
How many Virginians and Marylanders will move to DC if the district gets them first?
What happens when the blacks ruin the charter schools? Is there a Plan C (and homeschooling aint it!)?
It’s good to know that there are black parents who care enough to do so. Of course, to the rest they are Toms and Jemimas...
Clearly, these are motivated parents, and hopefully motivated children as well. Let’s hope these children get a great education and learn discipline: it’s good for the children, good for the black community, good for the future of charter schools, and bad for teacher’s unions and Democrats who oppose such efforts, desiring the status quo of keeping these children trapped in the cycle of ignorance and poverty.
“What happens when the blacks ruin the charter schools?”
And Who Says They Will?
